Re: My review of Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus"
Prophecy fulfillment is something that never happens to well-documented people in modern times. I don't think you are following cults all that well. Which is probably a good idea for you, because if you did you might find that as well as prophecies being not unusual, most cults who say they have or...

Re: My review of Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus"
What does Jesus Christ have in common with well-documented people that he does not have in common with legendary heroes? Since you ask, Markan Jesus scores lower than Zeus, Hercules, Oedipus, Moses, Theseus, Dionysus, Romulus and Perseus. :) Or should I say 'can be scored' since there's a lot of le...

Re: The syncretistic origins of Christianity.
Arguably the only 'truly rational' sceptical stance to take on this is agnosticism, or fence-sitting. I am not far from the fence. In fact I think I am still holding on to it while leaning a certain way, on whatever issue (be it Jesus's existence or the spread of Christianity, which are slightly dif...

Re: The syncretistic origins of Christianity.
I don't think there is any evidence that orthodox Christianity existed for a long time after it is said to have begun to exist. That's incorrect. There is a lot of evidence. It's just that you dispute it. The two are not the same thing. Depends what we mean by 'orthodox' in any case. To me, that's ...

Re: The syncretistic origins of Christianity.
I did read somewhere that the (supposed) original Jewish christians .. were caught between a rock and a hard place, the suggestion being that they were considered as heretics by mainstream Jews as regards their claims to Jewishness (and considered as pagan if they were gentile converts) and also co...

Re: My review of Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus"
It's always a good idea, if one wants to bolster one's case, to add in new inputs or criteria that will bolster one's case.
