Re: On the silence of 2century apologists

1: If Paul is writing in the 1st century BCE and referring to people of the cult that he is promoting, what cult might that be? 2: When one discards Acts as the political and theological fiction that it obviously is why then do we suppose that Paul was involved with groups in Greece and Macedonia? ...

Re: The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christianity

I see Jewish Christianity as being a faction of what Josephus calls the Fourth Philosophy ... I believe there have been suggestions made linking scrolls found at Masada to the DSS. https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-artifacts/dead-sea-scrolls/ancient-scribe-links-qumran-scrolls-to-m...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

It is not true that Doherty thinks that AoI is historicist. I heard (read online) that Doherty, a few years ago, conceded (with caveats) that 'Jesus' may have been described as having come to earth in Ascension of Isaiah. Is this correct and do you have a link? Probably best to point you to Doherty...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

I am not going to set out in detail for you a case that is already mainstream and can be accessed by googling even wiki pages on early Christianity, the spread of early Christianity or the church fathers. That case/version is fairly well-established. I understand that you are considering alternativ...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures

I guess I don't know which of the english words, in either text, translates to the Koine Greek chrestos. χριστος ( XPRISTOS ) = Christos; generall means 'anointed'. χρηστὸς ( XPRESTOS ) = Chrestos; generally means 'good', or 'useful' (often in the case of a slave). It can have been a name. It's pos...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures

the “Wisdom of Solomon” was probably composed at Alexandria in the first century BCE. Which implications? Nothing of different from the role played by the Suffering Servant in Isaiah. No implications for the existence or non-existence of Jesus? You surprise me. :) No but seriously (I am unfamiliar ...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures

Ok thanks.

So, when do you think W of S was written, by whom and where, and what do you think are the implications of it using that word (and sounding quite a bit like it's referring to a figure given that name/title, ie Jesus)?

Sorry, I edited my post above...
archibald wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2018 3:33 am One question....how do you integrate these possibilities with your being 75% in favour of a non-earthly Jesus?

Would you say that that is your most preferred explanation, and that these others come from the remaining 25%?

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

So, again... It would be fab if you could just very briefly give a rough indication (of the somewhere and the when) that is your most likely guess. you were thinking it might have originated..........when and where? In any case, you think it might have spread from..........? I think Jax makes some ...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

What reasons? How are the 'paths and locations' of the early writers and Church fathers 'traced' ? I am not going to set out in detail for you a case that is already mainstream and can be accessed by googling even wiki pages on early Christianity, the spread of early christianity or the chuch fathe...
