Re: On the silence of 2century apologists
MrMacSon and Jax, is the proposition on the table simply that Christianity started as a Greek/Hellenistic sect, with little to no Jewish/Semitic influence at all, and only later spread to Jewish/Semitic people groups? Hi Ben, in my case, I note that all of the places that we normally associate with...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures
I guess I don't know which of the english words, in either text, translates to the Koine Greek chrestos.

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures
See also dus-chrestos in Wisdom of Solomon 2:11. From this (below), or have I got the wrong text? Wisdom of Solomon, Chapter 2. ........."10: Let us oppress the righteous poor man; let us not spare the widow nor regard the gray hairs of the aged. 11: But let our might be our law of right, for ...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures
An overlooked 'christological' passage, used by Justin and Barnabas happens to be the earliest Chrestos reference I believe: Δήσωμεν τὸν δίκαιον, ὅτι δύσχρηστος ἡµῖν ἐστίν (Isa 3:10) The passage is read as if it predicted the Jewish mistreatment of Jesus at the crucifixion. I'm having trouble locat...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus
I was getting at not originating in Jerusalem in the mid 1st century, or at least not fully originating in Jerusalem. Ok. And instead you were thinking it might have originated..........when and where? There is no evidence of Christianity radiating out from Jerusalem, or from Antioch. Really? This ...

Re: The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christianity
archibald wrote on another thread: Interesting. But......James was openly preaching near the temple (Eisenmann thinks)? Also, 'Paul' would not have been 'establishment'? http://earlywritings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3780&start=50 So (apparently) did the Teacher of Righteousness, as Kim...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus
But, to be slippery, I'll say 75:25 ... :P Thank you. At last. Now, if you could also clarify what you're getting at in the other thread, about 'possibly not Jewish origins' and 'possibly not spread as is commonly thought' that would be fab too. Though, on reflection, it's hardly necessary after lo...

Re: On the silence of 2century apologists
However you date the DSS and whoever these figures were, I see them as being in a situation where it was not prudent to name names given their opposition to the "the establishment." Interesting. But......James was openly preaching near the temple (Eisenmann thinks)? Also, 'Paul' would not...

Re: On the silence of 2century apologists
Hi. :) I think I said that I'm only on page 60.....so I'm not sure how much I can offer just yet. So far, it is at least a very interesting and good read. Because so much about this topic (with which I confess I can become easily fascinated) is, I feel sure, never going to be conclusive, I tend to r...
