Re: 'body, flesh, soul, spirit' in all of the NT - Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts
Of particular interest for me: These three usages of the phrase "flesh and blood." BOOK OF 1 Corinthians Chapter 15 The Resurrection of Christ 35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what body do they come?” 37 And what you sow is not the body that will be, but you sow ...

Re: Two James in Galatians: Harmony with Mark and Luke-Acts
I have argued elsewhere that the flow of thought in Galatians is more coherent if there are two Jameses: 1) James "the Lord's brother" (also referred to in the phrase "men from James") and 2) the James of the "esteemed pillars"--"James, Cephas and John." On t...

Re: The origin of the belief in "resurrection of the SARX" prior to Marcion and Orthodox tradition
Thesis: Originally, when these texts were read by those who, as we say, "got it," life after "co-crucifixion"-- transformed existence in the "now" and "in the flesh" --provided the phenomenological (intersubjective) basis for the narrative of resurrection in ...

Re: "Esteemed pillars" vis a vis "men from James": Re-imagining the context for the way Paul spoke to Peter "to his face
Victorinus discusses Galatians 2:3-4 here, but I'm not getting the impression that it is based on a variant of 2:3 but rather only of 2:4 (the one that says "yielded" instead of "did not yield," as you've noted). But he goes on to say: Some read the last phrase as follows: not e...

Re: "Esteemed pillars" vis a vis "men from James": Re-imagining the context for the way Paul spoke to Peter "to his face
While I'm fine with either reading of "yield" or "did not yield" (and even lean towards "yield" since it fits with Acts and 1 Cor. 9:20), I'm having trouble fitting it with what Paul says in Gal. 2:3: Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised...

Re: "Esteemed pillars" vis a vis "men from James": Re-imagining the context for the way Paul spoke to Peter "to his face
I think our different reading of events comes from a different method of weighing evidence from Acts vs Galatians. I that my reading of Gal does not sync well with Acts, but neither does your view of Acts sync well with Galatians, as I read it. So there is no perfect fit. I further admit that your ...

to gryan, He therefore made some concession, as was necessary, for a time; and this was the reason why he had Timothy circumcised In Acts, the Timothy's circumcision occurs before the dispute in Antioch & the council of Jerusalem. That circumcision happened when Paul was travelling with Silas, ...

Re: "Esteemed pillars" vis a vis "men from James": Re-imagining the context for the way Paul spoke to Peter "to his face
what about Acts? do you think it's possible to say if the author's church feels threatened by Marcionites? Like by placing him firmly in their camp and telling his story but not so much dwelling on his theology - which the Marcionites presumably would have been doing quite a lot My current judgment...
