Re: Galatians 3:1 "portrayed as crucified"

It is virtually impossible to understand the NT Epistles without first reading the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles. Classic error. Its actually the other way around. This is the cardinal error of traditional New Testament scholarship. The reality is the exact opposite. The epistles came before the...

Re: Looking for reference on Carabbas vs Barabbas (Philo)

Thanks again Ben. I know I've also read something else along the lines of what RMP said, but from amore mainstream source. I'll try to track that down too.

Looking for reference on Carabbas vs Barabbas (Philo)

I'm looking for commentary by Crossan or Brown or others, who have noted the similarities between the Carabbas passage in Against Flaccus and the mocking of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark. I know I've read something before, where they explain it as evidence that this was a common practice.

Re: Galatians 3:1 "portrayed as crucified"

Yeah, it is a bit ironic. Our positions are quite similar indeed. He also wrote a forward to my first book. He's a great guy. (Let's just leave all Trump discussions out of it.)

Re: Galatians 3:1 "portrayed as crucified"

@hakeem Stories that Jesus said, "whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all" was most likely already known before any NT Epistle was written. No evidence of that whatsoever. Matthew 23:11 Matthew copied from Mark, as did every single Gospel writer, canonical and non-canonic...

Re: Galatians 3:1 "portrayed as crucified"

@hakeem Actually the teaching on eternal life also comes from Paul, contradictory as it may seem. It's a reference to Romans: Mark 10: 17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? ...

Re: How many times does Jesus get in a boat?

@Charles Wilson
I'll just say this. Paul the Apostle did lots of traveling by boat around the Aegean Sea, going to and from Troas to Greece and various places. Paul's use of a boat makes a lot of sense. Why was Jesus using a boat?

Re: Galatians 3:1 "portrayed as crucified"

@hakeem GMark has nothing whatsoever to do with the so-called Pauline Epistles. The response--One must first follow the Law in order to be get eternal salvation These things are not mutually exclusive. It's one thing to say that the writer of Mark did not fully adhere to Paul's teachings, it's anoth...

Re: Galatians 3:1 "portrayed as crucified"

GMark has nothing whatsoever to do with the so-called Pauline Epistles. The Markan Jesus preached salvation by works whereas the Epistles teach salvation through faith. Err.. Mark 2: 5 When Jesus saw their faith , he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 4: 40 He said to them, ...

How many times does Jesus get in a boat?

I count 6 times. Am I right or did I miss something? Furthermore, I understand that "Sea of Galilee" was a very unusual name for this body of water. Does anyone have sources that identify the typical name for this body of water? Is there any evidence that anyone used the term "Sea of ...
