Re: Recommendation for source on traditional Mark

I guess I can use Hermeneia, but if anyone has any other ideas, that would be good too.

Recommendation for source on traditional Mark

I'm looking for a recommendation for a highly regarded and referenced work that lays out the "traditional" view of the Gospel of Mark. Something that is representative of the view that the Gospel of Mark was written by a scribe with poor Greek writings skills who was recording oral traditi...

Re: Galatians 3:1 "portrayed as crucified"

When you look at the context it seems pretty clear that it is "forewritten". YLT: 6 according as Abraham did believe God, and it was reckoned to him -- to righteousness; 7 know ye, then, that those of faith -- these are sons of Abraham, 8 and the Writing having foreseen that by faith God d...

Re: Papias and oral tradition.

Ben, don't you think that this quote from Papias about his trust in oral tradition should be viewed with much more caution? I totally agree. Not least of which because while Papias says he prefers oral tradition, we learn nothing from him that is independent of the Gospels . What are you talking ab...

Re: Johannine epistles as reaction to Marcionism?

In reading 1 John, it seems quite interesting that there are so many similarities between 1 John and the Gospel of John, yet 1 John doesn't seem to know any actual information from the Gospels. I wonder if 1 John may have been written by the same person who wrote the Gospel of John, prior to his wri...

Johannine epistles as reaction to Marcionism?

Are the Johannine Epistles a reaction to Marcionism.

If they aren't a reaction to Marcionism, then what are they are reaction to?

Are there any good resources that address this topic?
