Re: Jesus/Joshua as the anti-Moses just as the Serpent is the anti-YHWH
OK I think I see what your saying Its worth to mention not every Gnostic disliked Yahweh though, that would be the stronger gnostic sects that took Hebrew scripture literally, but in reverse. Others seemed to presuppose a different cosmology entirely and less dualistic If you ask me these were the e...

Re: Jesus/Joshua as the anti-Moses just as the Serpent is the anti-YHWH
OK Giuseppe i see what you are getting at but don't forget to check the gnostic sources! In some of them the serpent is NOT any Nehushtan deity, but the female spiritual or heavenly Eve, ie a Goddess of a tree So you can then surmise maybe Yahweh was originally paired with this female deity. So the ...

Re: What is the Evidence for 'Jewish Christianity' Beyond Literary References?
i was only kidding with you earlier, we are all tough guys here right? I will give you this SA, most of the church fathers seem pretty crazy to me and hardly reliable. God only knows what was going on back then Lets face it the Roman empire was collapsing and maybe people were just going nuts, why n...

Re: What is the Evidence for 'Jewish Christianity' Beyond Literary References?
I assume he's hoping Guiseppe will reply and this is bait to lure him in, as SA wants to spar with someone. He's forgot about the 'curse'/'blessing' in synagogues against Nazarenes for one thing, but it's immaterial, we are alike SA and I, we ignore evidence that disagrees with our theories. He's al...

Ben i guess we may not agree on this :) The truth is out there somewhere Just sticking to the Galatians bit in particular he says "Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days. But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother. No...

Re: Psalm 22:16 is quoted in Odes of Salomon but without inferring from it a crucifixion
Ben, i see it as typical of Paul's line of reasoning which is persuasive and he's a master at that, no doubt It's just the premise itself means Paul comes along with a revelation from God that makes all prior gospels of no account whatever they may be, even if coming from well known apostles. Apostl...

Re: Epiphanius on the Ebionites
Of what value is Irenaeus's reporting on the Ebionites? Hegesippus's reporting on the Jerusalem Church is pure nonsense. I think Church Fathers struggled to explain Jewish Christianity yep, but i look at it like a simple man Christianity didn't start in Judea, it began way up north in Galilee where...

Re: Epiphanius on the Ebionites
I think he is onto something with that, though. There are some very interesting overlaps between what is happening in the Dead Sea scrolls and what we find in early Christianity one that stands out is the DSS for apocalyptic belief in hell! correct me if I'm wrong but this wasn't mainstream in Juda...
