Re: Dating the LXX
I think one has to differentiate between at least two different versions of the LXX (1) Christian: Whoever wrote the Greek NTC imported a great deal of copy/pasted material from a special "Christianised" [1] version of a Greek LXX. Practically all surviving manuscripts including papyri ma...

Re: Dating the LXX
... a date for the LXX ... It comes after the NT, such is for sure I think that the LXX was either developed before or with Paul +/- Hebrews (+/- some Catholic epistles), which all may have been in the second century It's origins may well pre-date the Gospels ... :goodmorning:  I'm intereste...

Re: Is the claim that Jesus's historicity is irrelevant for Christian origins as controversial as mythicism is?
I am wondering. I think you have a good lot of answers already LOL Perspective is what matters here: for those who do true research into Christian origins, historicity may or may not be part of the outcome but that's what the evidence will determine, so it is completely irrelevant. Well it may hurt...

That certainly doesn't mean that he believed that himselfSecret Alias wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 2:38 pm I think it is reasonable to conclude that the author presented the story as historical fact.

Re: After 20 Years Plus of Flogging His Theory How Many Here at the Forum Believe Mountainman?
Denying reality. There was Chrestianity before Constantine, such is for sure. /// Pete's theory in concept is not so strange: Christianity is much later than assumed. But to assert that the NT, the NHL and the FF were all fabricated at one and the same time is untenable given all the Chrestian atte...

Re: NT, OT, LXX and MT: DSS = 5% LXX
You say that ChesterBeatty Numbers "32:12 has IS for Joshua!" Isn't that also the case in the 4 great codices? Jesus was designed as a continuation of Joshua. In the "Christianised" LXX Joshua and Jesus share the same rune. By "Christianised LXX" I mean an LXX with run...

Re: Historical paradigms and Christianity before Constantine
Although I now concede that Justin did not regard Marcion as Christian, my general belief is that Justin, by saying, albeit obliquely, that Marcion was called a Christian even though he was not a Christian, was in fact taking a position about Marcion's Christianity which was not as common as Justin...

Re: Bruno Bauer's works now in English
...he would call Bauer a Jesus Agnostic more than a mythicist strictu senso : Given their rampant fabricating, the Gospels have at best a 50/50 chance of saying any true thing about a historical Jesus. Adding one more Gospel of no greater quality will thus have no effect on the probability either. ...

Re: After 20 Years Plus of Flogging His Theory How Many Here at the Forum Believe Mountainman?
There WAS Christianity before Constantine. There was Chrestianity before Constantine I would like to point out that this reveals a point of difference between members of the forum: what some people will put in the category of "Christianity," others will assign to a different category fami...

Re: Bruno Bauer's works now in English
You'll have the most trouble with references to chapters and verses and such which will be unintelligible because in this way there is no context. Those can only be picked up via proofreading Question: Are you aware of the difference between Bauer's ~1840 publication on the gospels and ~1850 work, ...
