Re: Does Cephas mean a "pointed rock"?

I have come across this in Karel Hanhart's The Open Tomb , p. 441: (1) The original nickname Cephas means "pointed rock"; it may go back to Jesus himself calling Simon this in good humor. (2) But Mark prepared the readers of his post-70 Haggadah for his parting phrase in 16:7 by consisten...

Re: "The Simontic Problem". "Mark's" Negative Casting of Pet

I was a little surprised that Mark used in some typical cases for "word" logos , although Paul rhema selected. Finally, I noticed that rhema is parked in GMark for one of these simontic jokes. There are just two rhema in GMark, but Peter called in Mark 14:72 the false rhema in mind. He sh...

Re: The Skeptical Critical Commentary on "Mark"

Thank you very much, Joe. I'm sure it is very helpful for me. I searched a couple of hours but can't find an old greek phrase like in Mark 15:21, separating "name" and "family relations" through an adverb clause (Don´t know whether "adverb clause" is correct?). Everybo...

It looks like my copy was hit with a NuTon bomb which destroyed all/almost all/most critical methodology to evaluate the weight of source testimony except for "all/almost all/most critical Bible scholarship". What about other's copies?

JW : Looking for evidence of fiction with the second criterion: 1) Likelihood 1 - The extent of the impossible 2 - The extent of contradictions For our test pericope here, Mark 1:9-11, what is the extent of contradiction: Mark 1:9-11 [The Baptism of Jesus] 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, tha...

Re: The Skeptical Critical Commentary on "Mark"

Might one be allowed to conclude that without #1 points #2 to #5 are so banal as to be pointless. Is not the point of Mark's pericope the impossibility of #1? Without that the baptism of Jesus has no special meaning at all. It is not the introduction of a new movement or career. It is no different ...

Re: The Skeptical Critical Commentary on "Mark"

JW : Looking for evidence of fiction with the first criterion: 1) Likelihood 1 - The extent of the impossible First a note. In the Scientific world, when a possible witness testifies the impossible, it is assumed that they are either lying or at least not telling the truth (we don't need to get int...

Mark 14:51 σινδόνα Mark 16:5 στολὴν How do you explain the different wording in the two accounts? A στολή is not a σινδών. The latter is a sheet, the former an article of clothing. I don't think an ancient reader would read σινδών and equate it with στολή. One isn't supposed to wear a σινδών in pub...
