Re: The Propaganda War Against Mythicism [Vridar]
Docetists believed that there was a Jesus and that his was a real presence in this world, but his earthly body was an illusion. Docetists believed in a spiritual non-human Jesus: Myths don't interact with this world. that sounds pretty mythical to me. There might be need of disambiguating the conte...

Re: The Propaganda War Against Mythicism [Vridar]
What is with this persisent confusion of docetism with mythicism? Docetists believed that there was a Jesus and that his was a real presence in this world, but his earthly body was an illusion. ... from the eighteenth century onwards, there have been attempts to insist that Jesus did not even "...

Re: The Propaganda War Against Mythicism [Vridar]
As attractive as the mythist theory is, and as creative as the radicals are in their theories, there is no actual basis anywhere for an argument for an ancient belief in a mythical Jesus unless one simply takes pieces out of context - i.e. deconstructs out of context the texts COMPRISING the UNIFIE...

Re: Ethnarch of King Aretas? the legendary Damascus basket c
Besides the caravan route north went straight through the territory of Philip the Tetrarch (Batanea, Auranitis, Trachonitis, Ituria (of Zenodorus), AJ 17.319). How do you know these territories were cutting Aretas IV caravan trail towards Damascus? Right after Trajan's conquest of the Nabataean kin...

Re: The Propaganda War Against Mythicism [Vridar]
Assertions without supporting argument or evidence fall by the wayside. Also, the following historical evidence continues to be swept aside .... (1) "HERESY LAWS" operated from the 4th to the 14th century. (Death to the heretics) <<===== Not mentioned by the detractors of Mythicism (2) &q...

Re: Ethnarch of King Aretas? the legendary Damascus basket c
2 Cor 11:32 simply doesn't say any such thing. The only people who talk about Aretas IV are modern day pundits who make things up. 2 Cor 11:32 does not say this Aretas is #IV. Sure. But if you contend 2 Cor 11:32 is not an interpolation and that king is actually Aretas III, you have a huge problem ...

Re: Ethnarch of King Aretas? the legendary Damascus basket c
Aretas IV was stuck down in Petra, blocked by the territories of Herod Antipas and Philip Not so. Aretas IV territories extended North to Bosra, a very important Nabatean city. These territories were to the East of Herod Antipas and Philip kingdoms. There are about only 80 kilometers between Bosra ...

1. that there were many ethnarchs in the Empire associated with or appointed by client kings or kings - i.e. that the Alexandrian ethnarch of the Jewish community was associated with King Agrippa in the manner that the ethnarch of Damascus is alleged to have been associated with Aretas or is this j...

Re: Ethnarch of King Aretas? the legendary Damascus basket c
If you think 2 Cor 11:32 is not an interpolation, but the Aretas in question being Aretas III, then that would put Paul's apostolic episode way earlier (about by one century). Before I go further, I have to ask you: Is it what you think? If not clarify. I don't really know what to think of the vers...
