Re: The Mythicist House of Cards
My conclusion is summed up best by the skeptic Randel Helms, speaking to an audience of secular humanists at a CODESH "Institute for Inquiry" on "A Secular Humanist Approach to the Gospels," who said sarcastically, "I think that you can deal with Wells' notion that Christia...

Re: In new poll, 13% of Australians don't believe Jesus exis
If the Jesus Christ narrative is myth, it's myth. The only issue as to 'which' is current hypotheses & arguments about how or why. Agreed. It is myth. But to date their is only 1 credible hypothesis, that regards a Aramaic Galilean who was crucified at Passover, historical. No replacement hypot...

Re: Questioning the Plausibility of Jesus Ahistoricity Theor
My interest in the subject does not wane merely because I think the Gospels are not histories. To me unraveling the details involved in their composition and their intent is no mere grappling with semantics. My point was that we get too caught up with definitions of words like myth, legend, history...

Re: In new poll, 13% of Australians don't believe Jesus exis
There's 23,100,000 people in Australia according to the Internet. Extrapolating the poll to the general population, 13% would be over 2,300,000 people who are "Christ mythicists." This, once again, demonstrates that American Bible scholars are among the most insulated, misinformed, and out...

Re: Questioning the Plausibility of Jesus Ahistoricity Theor
But there's where I think we have to draw the line. It may be true that the events in the gospel never happened. In that sense they might be better described as a lie. But the idea that the author(s) didn't intend to write history, I think this needs a lot more work. IMO they don't appear to be 'fa...

Re: In new poll, 13% of Australians don't believe Jesus exis
I just read this interesting article that came out yesterday on the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) news website. The ABC is a government-funded public corporation: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/spiritofthings/what-does-easter-mean-to-modern-christians/6367512 What does Eas...

Re: Questioning the Plausibility of Jesus Ahistoricity Theor
The question is bigger than just "the history of Jesus." The question is about the very nature of "history" itself and how or why we think we can infer facts from ancient literature without knowing anything about the writer or his motives. I don't understand why more people don't...

Re: MARKed - astonishing text variants
It would be great if somebody did a "synoptic" of Sinaiticus, Vaticanus, and Alexandrinus's versions of Mark. There must be lots of small but interesting variants like this that would be more noticeable if "seen together."
