Re: Richard Carrier lectures science and history disproves G
Carrier also claims God has never communicated any essential moral knowledge in the Bible. Apparently Carrier never read the about the 10 commandments in the book of Exodus. What is particularly moral about the Ten Commandments? Only three or four of them convey any real moral message and even thos...

Atheism is not a worldview.
You would have to give an example of how he "misuses history, science or philosophy." I don't know what you mean.

Re: Carrier vs. Rent-an-Apologist on Historicity of Jesus
You might have missed this but he is primarily an ancient historian (as distinct from "Biblical Historians" who have been referred to as the "insiders") I think he actually has a degree in the "History of Philosophy," not of "history" in the general sense. Th...

Re: Carrier vs. Rent-an-Apologist on Historicity of Jesus
What does that have to do with my statement? Since all Christian literature post-dates the alleged life of Jesus it's fallacious to object to the Ascension of Isaiah on that grounds and a non-sequitur to call it "dishonest" unless Carrier is actually lying about the dates (something which...

Re: Detering, etc.
Interesting. I wish I understood German better, but from what I can understand from my high school German, the debate sounds like it follows the same contours as it always does in English. A lot of argument over whether Paul was talking about a real person or not.

Re: my Testimonium article
Price or both, however, has said that Marcion might have had his hand in Galatians (but not, on the same hypothesis, the rest). I do see the pastorals as anti-Marcionite fabrications. I'm stuck with doubt about the others. any idea who might have fabricated the pastorals, Peter? Robert Price says P...

Re: Wait, what??!! Carrier needs two mythical Jesuses?
Whoa, I just did a double take. In his debate with Zeba Crook http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgmHqjblsPw at 1:33 Richard Carrier slips in the statements that Cephas may have been the human founder of Christianity and that "obviously" there was a Christianity before Paul originated his ult...

All the more reason to think the "called Christ" part is a scribal note.

Re: Did Jesus Die in Outer Space?
We need the historicity case to be made as strongly as it can, hopefully someday soon. Peter, unless yours above is qualified by some implicit context, I find it quite an astonishing statement. Are you already committed to "historicity" before the case for it has been made (strongly)? I t...
