Re: Atheist assumptions dating Gospels are wrong
There is no such thing as an "atheist assumption regarding the Gospels." You are confusing critical scholarship (which is mostly done by believers) with atheists. Matthew and Luke's nativities are set ten years apart. There's no way around that. Bethlehem didn't exist in the 2TP. Nobody ha...

The gospels are from original witnesses and the only way to debunk them is to find other eye-witnesses with equal or greater authority. Good luck with that. What shows the gospels are from original witnesses? too much to go into here. there's a great deal of it. I suggest you read Jesus and the eye...

Re: Romans released bodies of the crucified?
The sources about crucifixion and the practice of leaving bodies on the cross to become carrion come from a multiplicity of contemporaneous ancient authors, including Pliny the Elder, Josephus, Horace, Juvenal, Petronius and others. There are also some corroborating evidence such as inscriptions st...

Re: Daniel R Schwartz on gLuke, Josephus and Quirinius
This "Quirinius" is never named in any Roman (or Christian or other) source. Names given in the Whiston translation of Josephus are often distorted. There are two possibilities: 1--Cyrenius of 6 AD 2--Quintillius Varus of 4 BC "Cyrenius" is just a Latinized version of "Kyre...

1. The gospels are in absolute agreement (and their "specificity" suggests they were written during Jesus' lifetime and could NOT have been written later) 2. The gospels are quoted and referred to in independent writings of the first few decades after Jesus died proving they themselves we...

Re: Metacrock is still apologizing...
Because the crucifixion ended between 3:00 and 6:00 on the eve of Passover According to the Synoptics, the Passover had started the night before. They are crystal clear about it. Are they lying? The Romans would not have cared about getting the body down, nor would they have cared about touching a ...

Re: Historical Jesus and Historical Tank Man: A Similitude?
You can't take anything as a certainty. Josephus is not necessarily reliable. He exaggerated some things, and spun some things, but he is a better historiographer (he names his sources) and different prior probabilities matter too. Josephus might be provisionally (not dogmatically) taken at his word...

Oh, no. Don't settle for THAT list. Let's make this interesting: --Abraham spoke and wrote in Akkadian cuneiform --Bible verses are quoted in the Assyrian Annals --The Genesis story of creation proliferated directly to Memphis and the Indus valley and are indirectly quoted in both bodies of literat...

I think he's too reckless to be Holding, not insulting enough and not well enough ensconsed behind a cushion of obfuscatory references to other apologists. He might be a Holding disciple, though.Stephan Huller wrote:Who wants to put money on Mentalflatliner = J P Holding?
