Re: Justin Martyr and the Emerging Christian Canon

A demotion of the gospels (plural)? I see a demotion of only the "so-called gospel": the Evangelion . Justin reflects a time where the word "Gospel" is still seen as a purely marcionite invention. Hence surely, if Justin had some gospel, it was not called explicitly "gospel...

Marcion + Judaisation = a fashioned Christ

Adversus haereses 4.4.4: [4] They, at any rate, receive his Antitheses; and more than that, they make ostentatious use96 of them. Proof out of these is enough for me. For if the Gospel , said to be Luke's which is current amongst us97 (we shall see whether it be also current with Marcion), is the ve...

Re: Does the lost Gospel Q Exist? | Dr. James McGrath Vs Dr. Mark Goodacre

My open science book of a half million words details the five hypotheses and offers hundreds of pages of proofs with meticulous word counts, cluster analysis, binomial distributions probabilities, etc. Refute any of the hypotheses or any of the proofs if you can. Hypothesis 2. When Luke has a paral...

Re: Chrestians/Christians?

Marcion never existed, but creating him as a sock puppet allowed for the FF to address the gospel of Chrestianity - which *Ev was Which explains why we can not locate his drivers license or birth certificate :D A fun one: when did Marcion first get "Patricised" and when was the last on th...

Re: Chrestians/Christians?

There is no name for a non-gnostic, mystical branch of Christianity even though it leaves traces everywhere, why is that? "Marcion" you're pulling my chain ml! too late, way too late + too dualist.. PS I think the GoP is better dated early 2nd century and I think the first NHL editions da...

Re: Data Science and the Gospels

BeDuhn translates it correctly, but either Ben or Roth fudges it. The parentheses remind me of those footnotes in the NRSV that tell the reader what is actually in the Greek although they bowderlize the main text. Ben also managed to restore the wineskin and patch in the reverse - canonical - order...

Re: Chrestians/Christians?

I'm not saying my reading is a slam-dunk by any means. I do think it is consistent internally, which lends weight to my reading. So if you think I'm wrong on any of it, please let me know why. Please quote GoP as well to show me where I am wrong. From Chrestian to Christian - Philip beyond the grav...

Re: Chrestians/Christians?

I hope people found my analysis above interesting, even if not convincing! It seems convincing to me. That's not very convincing, but it amazes me how you can read all that AND have an outspoken opinion on it whereas you need "more time" to decide on a single word in a text versus a dicti...

Re: Chrestians/Christians?

Thanks Don, nice exercise You start the post explaining very well that you have an impression of what the entire situation ought to be, and then begin reading - with predictable results Well, if I'm right, the results will be predictable also. If I'm wrong, hopefully you'll be able to point out whe...
