Re: Porphyry quotes the original 1 Cor 9:5 ?

As long as you think Marcion is meant you will read the passage as = "and falsification of scripture will become evident (apparebit vitiatio scripturae)." But the passage is clearly connected with the line that came before [ = so that they were perverting the gospel, not by any such interp...

Re: Porphyry quotes the original 1 Cor 9:5 ?

I would love to be instructed as to why this section in Adversus Marcionem should be used as a guide for Marcion's collection of Pauline letters. Where's the evidence that Marcion had any of this nonsense: So he writes that after fourteen years he went up to Jerusalem, to seek the support of Peter a...

Re: Porphyry quotes the original 1 Cor 9:5 ?

For those who are capable of this knowledge. Against Marcion does not say Marcion had this passage. The first mention of 'what Marcion had' or what the Marcionites believed comes much later: But, you object, he censures Peter for not walking uprightly according to the truth of the gospel. Yes, he do...

Re: Porphyry quotes the original 1 Cor 9:5 ?

Paul's interests (allegedly) are only with the Gentiles. He doesn't care (allegedly) that differences exist between his gospel and that of the Jerusalem Church because his gospel is going forward albeit in an altered form. Does it help if Paul was understood to be speaking about a written gospel her...

Re: Porphyry quotes the original 1 Cor 9:5 ?

The concession (yielding for an hour) cannot logically lead in any direct way to the result (so that the gospel might persevere). Another example. I write a book. The movie studio wants to develop a screenplay but demands that a nude scene must be added. I accept these terms and tell my fans on Twi...

Re: Porphyry quotes the original 1 Cor 9:5 ?

one hour only was likely the (alleged) time of the meeting. He said what he needed to say and then continued with his own agenda.

Re: Porphyry quotes the original 1 Cor 9:5 ?

Why doesn't it make sense? My mother used to always tell me the same thing. Be nice for an hour.
