Re: Nomina Sacra: Their Origin and Usefulness
Nice find there LC. Remember also earlier that the Christogram XR was a pre-Christian siglum in the margin of miss or excerpts of Homer marking certain passages as 'useful' or 'excellent' for quotation. We already know that scholars routinely posit Christian compilations of extracts from the Septua...

Re: Doherty's reading of the Lord's Supper (1 Cor 11)
"Problem" in what sense? If D.C.H.'s argument held water, would he not say that 1 Corinthians 11:23-27 is based on the interpolation into Luke, then? If the passage in Luke is an interpolation then it is quite likely based on the passage in 1 Corinthians rather than the other way round. I...

Re: Is 1 Cor 11:23-27 an Interpolation? (split)
As a rather wild speculation: IF (as seems quite likely) Marcion omitted (most) of Luke 22:16-18 because of the kingdom of God imagery then the passage would be very abrupt without 19b-20. Maybe Marcion interpolated 19b-20 from 1 Corinthians to make up for his omission of 16-18. The long version the...

Re: Doherty's reading of the Lord's Supper (1 Cor 11)
The problem with this is that the long version of Luke 22:19-20 (referenced above) is probably not original. The short version And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body is not particularly close to Paul. Andrew Criddle "Problem" in what sen...

Re: Doherty's reading of the Lord's Supper (1 Cor 11)
I haven't exactly looked closely at which synoptic gospel or gospels may have been alluded to in 23-25, but these passages, in Greek, are below: I have a wake to go to, so cannot do it myself at this time. Perhaps we could find a volunteer? Bernard? Now that I have had the chance to look over all t...

Re: Seeing two persons of trinity in Daniel 7:13-14?
Iskander, I am not trying to approve or disapprove of what it says, I am just trying to understand how they explain seeing two persons of God in a vision. Usually Christians say that only one can be seen since Exodus 33:20 says people can't see God's face and live. Maybe you have a different explan...

Re: Doherty's reading of the Lord's Supper (1 Cor 11)
One issue I have with Doherty's reading, is that Paul does not seem to be saying that the Lord's Supper is a physical reenactment of an earlier spiritual meal. Paul seems to be saying that the Lord's Supper is a reenactment of an earlier supper and symbolizes the body and blood of Christ in the same...

I still have no success in finding Democritus fragments in the original Greek. I once found them for Xenophanes, but I forget where I found them. ...................... Democritus according to Hippolytus is here https://archive.org/stream/philosophumenas00cruigoog#page/n77/mode/2up Andrew Criddle

Re: Doherty's reading of the Lord's Supper (1 Cor 11)
Roger Beck argues speculatively http://bjournals.ub.rug.nl/ancientnarra ... le/222/208 that the meal of Mithras and Sol may be based on historical events involving Tiridates and Nero.

http://legacy.owensboro.kctcs.edu/crunyon/e261c/06-Plato/greek_mystery_cults.htm The creed was essentially the affirmation of the passion (suffering), death, and resurrection of the divine son of Dionysus, and resurrection of all men into a future of reward and punishment. Since the Titans, who had...
