Re: Why the descent into Hell is not reported by the Gospels?

In both GNicodemus and Revelation of Adam we have: 1) signs and wonders by the hero... 2) ...that derive attention and scorn by Satan... 3) ...who has doubts about the true identity of the hero.. 4) so Satan thinks that the hero is only a man... 5) and therefore Satan kills only the man possessed by...

Re: Why the descent into Hell is not reported by the Gospels?

There is a surprising similarity between the actions of Seth and the actions of Jesus in GNicodemus. It can't be a mere coincidence. I am persuaded. The whole creation that came from the dead earth will be under the authority of death. But those who reflect on the knowledge of the eternal god in the...

Re: Was "Thou art my beloved Son" addressed to the Spirit and not Jesus?

davidoliversmith wrote: Thu Aug 02, 2018 9:27 am Irenaeus was wrong. He was writing in the late second century. Matthew and Luke had rejected Mark's adoptionism and made their Jesuses the son of God from birth, not adopted. Irenaeus was trying to harmonize all the gospels.
Ok, thanks. That is surely a possibility to consider.

Why the descent into Hell is not reported by the Gospels?

According to Hymn to Philippians, also who is in the Hell has to recognize the power of the cross. But in the Gospels there is no reference to what happens in the underworld before and after the death of Jesus, only the zombies scene in Matthew that is merely anti-marcionite in nature. This raises s...

Re: Was "Thou art my beloved Son" addressed to the Spirit and not Jesus?

I don't agree that going into the wilderness is a direct effect of the voice from heaven. To me going to the wilderness is the direct effect of being infused with the spirit. It's the spirit that drives (casts, or throws as you point out) Jesus into the wilderness. Kai euthys (and immediately) is u...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

But I disagree with some points of Couchoud while surely this his specific point about Barabbas seems very plausible to me, even probable . If you can give some other solution that overcomes the embarrassment of having JESUS Barabbas in a Gospel (different from the parody of a rival sect of which we...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

That the titulus should read "King of the Jews" also makes sense (in the story as written) as something etched by a Roman, though I agree the phrase is also pregnant with theological meaning. what I am completely persuaded is that Couchoud's hypothesis is very concrete. I mean: evidence o...

Was "Thou art my beloved Son" addressed to the Spirit and not Jesus?

10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: 11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 12 And immediately the spirit driveth him into the wilderness. (Mark 1:10-12) ...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

Continuing the previous post in answer to Ben: I think that really a serious case may be made that in the Arrest, Trial and Passion Narrative there is a sudden explicit insistence on the claim of the condemned: to be king "of the Jews". While in any episode that precedes the final episodes...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

Saying that someone is born of a woman is banal. Saying that someone is king of the Jews is not banal at all: not in the slightest, not even about a "figure from Jewish mythology," whatever that means in this case. it is not only that. Judas who betrayes Jesus (Judas and not Pilate as it ...
