Re: Dating the Gospel of Mark

In this article, Detering argues for a date ca. 130 from the evidence of the Little Apocalypse (Mark 13): http://www.radikalkritik.de/Mk13%20JHC.pdf 1. Thanx for the article, PK. Detering is incorrect and makes a number of Categorical Errors - Type, "Existence-is-not-a-Predicate", explori...

Re: Dating the Gospel of Mark

What is there about General Rufus that leads you to imagine that he may have authored gMark? Why not Tacitus, or Pliny the younger, Rufus' adopted son... Thank you, Slevin. I'm not asserting that V Rufus wrote Mark. Tacitus and Pliny the Younger gave the funeral oration for VR and Pliny the Younger...

Re: Dating the Gospel of Mark

When do you date the Gospel of Mark? The use of "Holy Spirit" as a name for Domitian gives a clue. The HS is void of features, a disembodied god. The "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" replaces the "Baptism of John" which was barely out of the suggestion box which further gi...

Re: Dating gJohn & John 5:2

Before this Thread sinks slowly into the sunset, I feel obligated to Post on the Time Marker that is mentioned in the passage: John 5: 5 (RSV): [5] One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years. "Thirty eight years..." is a Time Marker and adds proof to the Thesis that the Ori...

Re: Who was the first person to claim Jesus never exsisted?

Once again we have gone off-track. That is unless you are trying to say the Gnostics were the first to say Jesus never, ever existed. No, John T, we are not off-track and there are others who would state that Jesus never, ever existed besides any "Gnostics" you are prepared to posit. Thes...

Re: Bruno Bauer, Christ and the Caesars [Fictional Jesus]

How many people are uncomfortable with a 2nd century date for the books of the NT? Not me, LC. With Domitian dba "The Holy Spirit", being the disembodied lord-god who underwent Damnatio , that places the absolute earliest organized NT at Post-96. The death of Verginius Rufus occurs in 97 ...

Re: Who was the first person to claim Jesus never exsisted?

Q: if the Gospel of Mark ended with the empty tomb is it really surprising that a tradition that Jesus was non-existential or supernatural would have taken root shortly after its publication? Stephan-- Just as you get to the super Close of the Argument, you open up another reason to argue a differe...

Re: Who was the first person to claim Jesus never exsisted?

Why is it necessary to make 'Jesus the man of flesh' the only possible interpretation of the gospel? You are exactly correct. Indeed, we don't have very far to go to find the Original Ending. It's in and around Matthew 5: 20 - 24 (RSV): [20] For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of...

Re: Paul Made It ALL Up?

In the passage above (1 Cor 1:11-12), some of the Corinthians found only Christ as their preferred spiritual role model --- does that mean Christ also visited the congregation? Those were Christians who did not want to be followers of Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas. Instead they would keep some distan...
