Re: in defence of astrotheology
The hypothesis that the authors of the NT copy/pasted from the Greek LXX to the NT is very reasonable. It has a lot going for it. But it does not address or explain all the evidence. It may be a rather bigger hypothesis that other hypotheses. I look at this like bits in a jigsaw puzzle which are va...

Re: The Myth of Nag Hammadi's Carbon Dating
Are you sure you completely understand all that you are saying? Not 100%. It's been well over 40 years since I did university level statistical mathematics. And do you understand what I've been saying in reply? Kind of. I can see you have a point about what to do with the outlying results. You make...

Re: The Myth of Nag Hammadi's Carbon Dating
http://www.mountainman.com.au/essenes/c14_Composite3.JPG My claim relates to the evidence that we have for the chronology of the entire epoch (whether that be 50 years or 500 years) during which people physically manufactured Coptic "gnostic related" codices. It seeks the median point of ...

Re: The Myth of Nag Hammadi's Carbon Dating
http://www.mountainman.com.au/essenes/c14_Composite3.JPG A third analytical curve is shown which represents both curves, on the basis that both results are in respect of the one category of test material - ie: "Gnostic Coptic codices". I agree that the third curve represents the assumptio...

Re: Gospel of Judas: Radiocarbon Age Results
Well, here's the good and the bad from my perspective: (1) As of this afternoon, I've read a prepub bit from Askeland, and so I know a bit more about these general matters, possibly. ;) (2) As of this afternoon, I will want to limit my comment regarding any argument that involves the specifics that...

Re: Gospel of Judas: Radiocarbon Age Results
The year 325 CE is clearly before and within the upper error bound of 340 CE and is thus still feasible. Why would Jull say something like that? Any ideas? I really don't know, but I can tell you an anecdote. One time an independent filmmaker was asking me for an interview on various topics, includ...

Re: Gospel of Judas: Radiocarbon Age Results
A lot isn't completely clear about how the "between 220 and 340" range was calculated. I can only suspect that this was a calculated statement prepared by an executive within Nat Geo. Ratings. The earlier the date the more sensational a discovery, where a 1st century date is a MAJOR JACKP...

Re: Gospel of Judas: Radiocarbon Age Results
What is the big delay in the publication of the final paper? Any ideas? You seem to be right about a confidentiality agreement, but there is hope. Christian Askeland and Peter Head themselves have chimed in. http://evangelicaltextualcriticism.blogspot.fr/2015/03/radiometric-dating-of-gospel-of-juda...

Re: Heaven
What is this idea that the dead are living? Where is it from? Does christ's resurrection become the exemplar of how the dead become living because this bloke Jesus invented the idea of God being the god of the living and that includes ancestors? Or is this a critical part of a story? Yeah probably....

Re: The Myth of Nag Hammadi's Carbon Dating
In the graphical presentation both of the two separate C14 results are displayed together with their respective median peaks and error bounds. A third analytical curve is shown which represents both curves, on the basis that both results are in respect of the one category of test material - ie: &quo...
