Re: Doubters of Marcion's Evangelion: whence and whither omissions?
Ok. There is no doubt that the Marcionite gospel didn't have the birth narrative. Can we move on? That's a 2000 word / 10%, clear and objective difference from canonical Luke, and an admission that Marcion's Gospel was an actual text. Good job. You might pass an NT 101 quiz in any college now. Now ...

Re: Doubters of Marcion's Evangelion: whence and whither omissions?
Nausea-inducing. Doubt is like Covid or a poisonous gas. Right. What does Tertullian EXPLICITLY testify to other than Matthew 5:17 like 10 times, "eternal life" and "life" and one or two others off the top of my head sitting in a rainy parking lot. I find it disheartening that a...

Re: Doubters of Marcion's Evangelion: whence and whither omissions?
Hmmm, may have to turn on the Ozone generator to get the sickening smell out of here. DCH. if this is addressed against me, it is not very nice and therefore the contempt is totally reciprocated. No no, not you, G! M Bilby was alluding to naysayers (which I took to include me, SA, Mr Price, and som...

Re: Doubters of Marcion's Evangelion: whence and whither omissions?
I would welcome an invitation to come on your podcast and debate this idiotic notion that Tertullian provides a practical road map to the Marcionite canon. You guys only get away with this because you're in a field that began by giving a pass to the Church Fathers. It's the bedrock that all this no...

Re: p.Oxy. 5575 discussion, zoom, today 12 noon edt
One interesting possibility is that p.Oxy. 5575 and p.Oxy. 4009 are both from the Gospel of Peter. Wow that would be an interesting outcome. Could you expand on this possibility ? p.Oxy.4009 has been held to be from the Gospel of Peter by some scholars. See e.g. https://www.cambridge.org/core/journ...

Re: Everyone’s Radical Vanity Project
Congratulations to Everyone for 'having solved' the puzzle of early Christianity, each in their own unique way. We’re all heroes. :notworthy: lol. All that's happened is the 12,746 pieces of the puzzle been tipped out of the box onto a large table, and x number have been grouped in y number of grou...

Doubters of Marcion's Evangelion: whence and whither omissions?
The repeatedly shouted doubt about the attestations of Tertullian, Epiphanius, and others to any actual text of Marcion's Gospel by several on this forum is as nausea-inducing as it is incoherent. Such dubia are just not part of the discourse in any peer-reviewed literature in the relevant fields, a...

Re: Everyone’s Radical Vanity Project
Congratulations to Everyone for having solved the puzzle of early Christianity, each in their own unique way. We’re all heroes. :notworthy: Such derivative-sounding scorn and sarcasm. Qohelet said much the same, but with far more wit and aplomb. Even so, I'm all for calling out any and all radical ...

Patristica podcast on Marcion & a new change log of updates to Vinzent's Apostolos
Jack Bull, Markus Vinzent, and I have recently started a podcast series about Marcion, his scriptures, and their historical and literary relationships to the canonical texts. The first episode is now available and can be accessed via the Internet Archive . I'm also uploading selected shorts/highligh...

Re: Marcionite readings of the Christ Hymn?
They wouldn’t be cutting it away. It’s just that they haven’t found attestation for it (in the Patristic accounts of Marcion). Right, but in their reconstructions they don't include it, even though it is simply unattested. But they do include other stuff that is unattested on the basis that it &quo...
