Re: Worth a read
A good summary of Julian the Apostate's Hymn to King Helios (the Sun) as supreme divinity, and of his blend of theology and statecraft, is given in this review, which appeared today. The book being reviewed is an Italian translation of and commentary on Julian's treatise, by Attilio Mastrocinque: G...

Re: Generic Religion
Christian prayer is basically designed for us to conform to what God wants instead of our own will. What is this, designed FOR us, stuff? Priests and preachers are people too. We have met the prayer designer and he be us. We should pray for God's will in whatever situation and be willing to accept ...

Lachish letters
As they were brought up in another thread and I rejected anonymous wiki crap I took a quick look at what was available from other sources. Did you know they also support The Book of Mormon too? This is quick and I have not found translations of all that many. If anyone can direct me to translations ...

Re: Bibleland in history and archaeology
Yes it is it the oldest mention we have of it. From this we learn enough to connect it with the Exodus version with the unleavened tacos (unless it is implicitly referring to beer) and such but also to learn the original has nothing to do with the Exodus Passover. Once again your ignorance is showi...

Re: Peter never in Rome - blockbuster by Zwierlein
I have never viewed Peter as ever being in Rome. To think a Galilean peasant would have ever taught in their enemies homeland is just not altogether sane. There may have been a Peter who taught, but its much more likely some influencial figure was tagged with peters name due to his popularity. I th...

{quote="A_Nony_Mouse"]Elephantine, the Passover papyrus King Darius orders a Passover to be held and gives conditions for its observance and the dates of observance. There is no indication is it an annual affair. The plain reading, absent the discredited OT, is that Passover is an occasio...

Worth a read
It is worth while to recall in a few words whence and how we first arrived at a conception of God; next to compare what is said about the divine among the Hellenes and Hebrews; and finally |321 to enquire of those who are neither Hellenes nor Jews, but belong to the sect of the Galilaeans, why they...

Just how hard is it for a believer to say maybe I am full of it? How hard for believers to seriously consider their beliefs are all wrong in every respect?stephan happy huller wrote:I don't know why it is so difficult for people on both sides to say "maybe."
That is how hard it is.

Re: Theodotos's Gospel = the Transfiguration After Resurrect
This IMO shows quite clearly that the canonical gospels were deliberately constructed to counter the earlier heretical arguments and understanding about Jesus. I would point out there is no heresy per se. Some group has to declare the truth before they can declare alternative truths to be heretical...
