Re: Bibleland in history and archaeology

Failure to agree with the postings of others is not grounds for condemnation. As to a Yahu cult as Elephantine the devil is always in the details. As I have posted there is no question the region around Judea worshiped both Yahu and Ashara. These are not the heroes of the OT stories. Every non-relig...

Re: Bibleland in history and archaeology

I am not pro-OT. I have no arguments to make. I am interested in clarifying the issues, particularly since several have been asking for you to walk the plank for some ideas you hold. I try to be a fair person and so I would have to understand both what views you hold and what evidence or argument m...

Re: Bibleland in history and archaeology

Perhaps reference to the academic minimalists would be helpful. Do you find anything worthwhile in what they say? Biblical Minimalism For years people were reading my postings and telling me I was a minimalist or Copenhagen school. I can think for myself. I didn't bother looking into them for years...

Re: Christianity evolved from Judaism?

Being an old-timer I remember some time in the 70s when the term "Judeo-Christian" was popularized by the redneck Christian preachers. It was part of the invention of "Christian Zionist" and a consequence of the 67 and 73 wars. The popularization was the direct intrusion of OT i...

Yes, right. Obviously. Greek has a definite article. I was speaking of its absence in a particular place in John 1:1. I have clarified.
Apologies. Missed the clarification.

Re: Bibleland in history and archaeology

What exactly are you looking for? The earliest evidence of people called Jews? The earliest evidence of the use of the tetragrammaton? The evidence of the date of the earliest book in the Hebrew Bible? The latest possible date for the last book in the Hebrew Bible? Something else? Physical evidence...

Re: Monotheism and John 1:1

BTW: I still don't see what anyone thinks this might have to do with monotheism. There is no monotheism in the OT any place. The first declaration of monotheism is in the Koran. There is no god but god. I believe in one god is a very far cry from I believe there is only one god. In fact the former b...

Re: Monotheism and John 1:1

In one of his podcasts, Robert M. Price states that the Greek is ambivalent: (1) There is no definite article. (2) In some situations, this necessitates supplying an indefinite article in translation. (3) In the predicate position and nominative case, a definite article can be omitted in Greek whil...

Re: Christianity evolved from Judaism?

Perhaps that is religiously correct history. Lets us look at the facts. Being an old-timer I remember some time in the 70s when the term "Judeo-Christian" was popularized by the redneck Christian preachers. It was part of the invention of "Christian Zionist" and a consequence of...

Re: The Strange Humility Displayed on the Coins of Agrippa I

Then this post of yours, however long, is not a response to anything I have posted. Ahem ... I was responding to the following post (the first from you in this thread): Celebrating the victory over the Judeans in coinage sounds exactly like what a Herodian would do. Go to War of the Jews by Josephu...
