Re: Monotheism and John 1:1
In one of his podcasts, Robert M. Price states that the Greek is ambivalent: (1) There is no definite article. (2) In some situations, this necessitates supplying an indefinite article in translation. (3) In the predicate position and nominative case, a definite article can be omitted in Greek whil...

Re: Would this show the Eden story is ancient?
Seems to me the simplest explanation is the Egyptians created the Eden story. Odds against the accidental usage of the same imagery (tree with fruit, snake, heel on head, enemy of the god who gives life) appears way to high for me. I did a quick google search for the origin of the picture, but coul...

Re: Would this show the Eden story is ancient?
Not sure I follow your logic. Even if we assume the symbolism is parallel (there are lots of trees and snakes in mythology) One is not nessearily dependant on the other, but BOTH may be, as you say "repurposed" or "reimagined" from another (even more ancient?) source. Certainly ...

Re: Would this show the Eden story is ancient?
What if I could show an ancient and unambiguous painting of the tree with fruit? And under that tree there is a snake? And the head of that snake is being crushed by the heel of a foot? And the inscription says the snake is the enemy of the god who brings life to the world? Would this convince you ...

Excuse me sir but this is a discussion of ancient jewish texts. Why is it not reasonable to point out a religion teacher is spouting nonsense about such texts? What is a video by a religion teacher doing here in the first place?beowulf wrote:Go away

Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ Λόγος, καὶ ὁ Λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν Θεόν, καὶ Θεός ἦν ὁ Λόγος = "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god " Why do people translate this "and the Word was God"? At best I can see it might be render "was divine" but clearl...

Christianity evolved from Judaism?
Perhaps that is religiously correct history. Lets us look at the facts. Christianity is a creedal religion. Islam has two required beliefs, there is no god but god and Mohamed is his prophet. Christianity is swamped with required Creeds and "teachings" ignored on risk of damnation. Without...

How about Origen was an idiot?
Or to that effect. It is improper to examine religious texts with the assumption that failure to understand is the fault of the examiner not the author.
