Re: Hadrian and the Christians

With respect to the use of Egyptian source material, I don't see why Manetho is required. He isn't "required". He's the source Josephus cites for the narrative. The account Manetho used could have been factual or at least developed from knowledge of an actual historical event which the Is...

Re: Was Christianity started by born Jews?

Was Christianity born Jewish? Rabbi Jeffrey Cohen: Blessed are you: A comprehensive guide to Jewish prayer. Page 37ff, The original version [of the Amidah] as recited in ancient Palestine, and as discovered this century in the Cairo Genizah, represents a far more passionate condemnatory targeting o...

Re: Hadrian and the Christians

Could you try to answer my question about circumcision and conversion now, princess? And maybe the Manetho question as well? We are looking for datable signs for pentateuchal writings to clarify when the split may have occurred.

Re: Hadrian and the Christians

I will readily admit that I am not an expert on the Book of Enoch. Nevertheless there are some obvious difficulties with dating the Pentateuch later than the Persian period. How do you explain the Qumran material which identify Gerizim as the original holy place? The adoption of Jews and Samaritans...

Dating the pentateuch

the Pentateuch is IMO is firmly dated to the Persian period. I think you are probably kidding yourself. The Enochic issue of sin is certainly after the Persian period, so the story of the fall drags Genesis with it. The Joseph story has frequently been related to Greek literary tradition. And what ...

Hellenism & Judaism

I don't find anything unreasonable about the following as a thesis: I think my thesis is clear - there was upheaval from the times of the Hellenism of Judaism (including the Maccabee Revolt) through to the end of the Roman-Jewish Wars (by which most Jews had been exiled or enslave or both): there wo...

Re: C.S. Lewis on anthropomorphic language

You've already told me three times it does not. And of course you should know. I was just going off your own words. Maybe riffing off my words. Have I misunderstood you? Isn't it a bit late to ask that? I don't know why you feel you can assume it is of interest that someone in the 1940s made such a...

Re: book of enoch

This o.p. for all intents and purposes seems like spam. richard allan ritter joined the forum a few minutes before posting to mention his own work. He doesn't even indicate why anyone should read it, let alone a link to it. Well, if anyone is interested in richard allan ritter's effort, try here . T...

Re: C.S. Lewis on anthropomorphic language

You're the one asserting that it doesn't interest me Oh, so the subject does interest you then? You've already told me three times it does not. And of course you should know. I don't know why you feel you can assume it is of interest that someone in the 1940s made such an assertion or what relevanc...
