Re: Rending of the veil
I am resurrecting this older post just to add some new information. Rabbi Singer wrote about Yoma 39-- and how Christians misinterpreted this information-- as we debated on this thread earlier. He explains what the tractate means and even goes into detail on the Sanhedrin, another issue we discussed...

New Archeological Dig
Do you think anything exciting will be found? Some sensationalist sites are saying that the Ark of the Covenant could be found here-- but I am not sure why-- this was only one of its many locations. https://www.thejc.com/news/israel/resting-place-of-the-ark-of-the-covenant-to-be-site-of-new-archaeol...

Re: Myth of widespread messianic expectations early first C
Neil, if you don't believe that messiahism was the driver, why do you believe that Jesus was placed in the first half of the century?

Re: Jewish prophecies of Messiah's arrival for circa 1st c.
If there was no expectation of a messiah-- then how do you explain Jesus and why he was purporting to be this very such thing? If you go by a mythic view point, or even a viewpoint that a man named Jesus existed, did he belong to a small group who were messianic? It seems that John the Baptist was e...

Julian's attempt at rebuilding temple and Christian legens
I was reading about Julian's attempt to rebuild the temple and some of the stories that went along with it. The christians reported a number of miracles and a pagan author also recounts balls of fire stopping project. This article recounts it: http://catholicexchange.com/greatest-historical-miracle-...

Re: The resurrection of the dead as a historical event
Thank you Andrew, that is an interesting thought-- that perhaps those "survivors" were some of the healed and not necessarily the resurrected. Did other early Christian apologists write about these miraculous people as well? I guess it wouldn't be unimaginable that some legends and stories...

Re: Two Witnesses
Thank you for your response. You provided some very good information. It seems like Enoch and Elijah being the two witnesses would inculcate that th writers expected this to happen in the future. For those that believe that Revelation was about the Roman destruction during Neros time, I wonder who t...

Two Witnesses
Who were the two witnesses in Revelation? Did they exist back in the 1st century-- and if so, who were they?
