Re: Carrier's numbers and math in OHJ

What I learned in this thread is that Carrier's book will not be properly addressed as there does not exist a single biblical scholar that knows maths, let alone stats.

Re: Apollos - Apelles

Jesus (Eeshu) is just a preservation of the original (secret) god of Israel. Peregrinus/Polycarp/Ignatius is just trying to take things one step further than Paul. It's a lot like Mani when you think about it. You mean by his self-immolation? What about the letters attributed to him, especially he ...

Re: Apollos - Apelles

Since this is all conjecture and no serious scholar would take this seriously and we know Paul wrote all 13, 10, 7, 4 of the epistles attributed to him with only a few strongly attested text critical interpolations and glosses, does anyone think that the Ignatian epistles were written to supplant th...

A man of multiple names Proteus/Peregrinus/Paul/Simon writing books considered scripture late in the 2nd century per Lucian? Is it just a coincidence a lawyer named Tertullus in Acts is Paul's prosecutor? But yea...

Re: Dating the Gospel of Mark

With more scholars dating Luke-Acts to somewhere around mid-second century, how long before the inertia is overcome and we start seeing serious re-appraisals of the consensus dating of the other two synoptics?

Re: D. M. Murdock makes mistakes?

John T is truly the anti-mythicist one-man-wrecking-crew, first Carrier(via youtube), now Murdock (via goalpost moving) he sure has demolished them. I'm sure he remains comfortable in his faith. Nuance be damned!

Re: Carrier's numbers and math in OHJ

If Carrier only has "not an improbable assumption" and "It would not be unimaginable that God could maintain a cosmic sperm bank" to support his reading of "seed of David", while there are lots of examples of "seed" being used to mean "descendent", ...
