Why the descent into Hell is not reported by the Gospels?

According to Hymn to Philippians, also who is in the Hell has to recognize the power of the cross. But in the Gospels there is no reference to what happens in the underworld before and after the death of Jesus, only the zombies scene in Matthew that is merely anti-marcionite in nature. This raises s...

Re: Was "Thou art my beloved Son" addressed to the Spirit and not Jesus?

I don't agree that going into the wilderness is a direct effect of the voice from heaven. To me going to the wilderness is the direct effect of being infused with the spirit. It's the spirit that drives (casts, or throws as you point out) Jesus into the wilderness. Kai euthys (and immediately) is u...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

But I disagree with some points of Couchoud while surely this his specific point about Barabbas seems very plausible to me, even probable . If you can give some other solution that overcomes the embarrassment of having JESUS Barabbas in a Gospel (different from the parody of a rival sect of which we...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

That the titulus should read "King of the Jews" also makes sense (in the story as written) as something etched by a Roman, though I agree the phrase is also pregnant with theological meaning. what I am completely persuaded is that Couchoud's hypothesis is very concrete. I mean: evidence o...

Was "Thou art my beloved Son" addressed to the Spirit and not Jesus?

10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: 11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 12 And immediately the spirit driveth him into the wilderness. (Mark 1:10-12) ...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

Continuing the previous post in answer to Ben: I think that really a serious case may be made that in the Arrest, Trial and Passion Narrative there is a sudden explicit insistence on the claim of the condemned: to be king "of the Jews". While in any episode that precedes the final episodes...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

Saying that someone is born of a woman is banal. Saying that someone is king of the Jews is not banal at all: not in the slightest, not even about a "figure from Jewish mythology," whatever that means in this case. it is not only that. Judas who betrayes Jesus (Judas and not Pilate as it ...

Re: "But not during the festival"...

You've also completely destroyed your own base by suggesting that a Jesus's preordained death was a later inversion. If so, then a historical Jesus suddenly becomes many times more likely than an allegorical one. that was an idea held without much conviction and even abandoned. My only perennial ce...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

I completely agree. It appears to me that the main reason Couchoud's hypothesis comes across to Giuseppe as a "perfect explanation" is its utility in furthering his specific notions about early Christianity, gnosticism, and mythicism. yes. The enigma Barabbas as resolved by Couchoud works...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

And for the record I am not saying that everything Giuseppe says is wrong. Some of it might be possible. My objection was to his habit of arranging a series of questionable 'discoveries' and arrive at a 'perfect' solution from them - one that solves 'everything.' My point is not that barabbas can't...
