Re: Jesus and other saviors/heroes
There are two big problems with most of this: 1) Many of these stories about Jesus didn't develop until much later. The original concept of Jesus was not even as a human being. The birth narrative, for example was added much later, many early Christian sects said that Jesus had never been born at al...

Re: "The Simontic Problem". "Mark's" Negative Casting of Peter
I'm not aware of anything in Mark that indicates that it is against Jewish Christians, at least beyond the extent that they had trouble understanding Jesus' idea that he (as the Son of Man) "must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, a...

Re: Did Hegesippus break the equation "James brother of Lord = Son of Zebedee"?
I'm assuming English isn't Giuseppe's first language. I'm saying James the Just and James son of Zebedee and the James Paul met in Galatians are all actually the "same person". Except that James son of Zebedee is really just fictional character, but he's a fictional character based on the ...

Re: Did Hegesippus break the equation "James brother of Lord = Son of Zebedee"?
I'm not sure exactly what Giuseppe is saying. What I said in the book is that James son of Zebedee was intended to represent the James who Paul met and talked about in his letters. That James was later misidentified by church leaders as the literal brother of Jesus, and thus led to a false split bet...

Re: Did Hegesippus break the equation "James brother of Lord = Son of Zebedee"?
Hi Giuseppe, thank you for the review. I think its clear that the idea that James the leader of the early Jesus cult in Jerusalem was a literal brother of Jesus didn't exist until the late 2nd century. There are really two possibilities, one of which I didn't address in my book (but I'm adding to a ...

Re: Book Review of Mark 1:1-8:26 by James Voelz
I would argue that this is due to the writer's use of literary allusions to the Hebrew scriptures. I also note that the use of such literary references increases in the later portions of GMark. See my work on this subject here: https://www.amazon.com/Deciphering-Gospels-Proves-Jesus-Existed/dp/14834...

Re: "The Simontic Problem". "Mark's" Negative Casting of Peter
This is an interesting, if not old, thread. Hakeem's comments from 2017 were exactly right. It's not just that GMark is contra Peter, GMark is contra the entire movement, especially Peter, James and John. What I argue in my new book (Deciphering the Gospels Proves Jesus Never Existed) is that GMark ...
