Re: Ishu = Man
Ishu = Anthropos? I don't know where the Anthropos Doctrine originates, but there are Anthropos elements in the Hermetica (which I suppose originates at least c.75 BC, even if the surviving material is c.300 AD). 'Son of Man' is a big theme in Ezekiel (200 BC, of older material?). As for Philo, the ...

Re: Samael
It's a muddle (different names = chronologically disparate sources/multiple editors, interpolations, etc.), simply. I do think there's something more to "Satan, his Angels, and his Powers" (i.e. hierarchical distinction) which has become garbled in VoI. And this presupposes different 'plac...

Samael
Samael is a complex character: https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/samael In rabbinic tradition the name first occurs in the statements of Yose (perhaps b. Halafta or the amora Yose) that during the exodus from Egypt “Michael and Samael stood before the Shekhinah” apparently as prosecutor and defen...

Re: Satan vs Belial, in this Case
It seems that Belial/Beliar and Satan are interchangeable. Is this really the case? Are these different names just a matter of language? Why do some documents refer to both Satan and Belial? I can see 'Martyrdom of Isaiah' as the oldest section in the 2nd C. AD work (i.e. 'Ascension of Isaiah') so ...

Re: The Prophets vs Moses?
I accept Gmirkin's thesis. Working from that, it makes sense that there would be Hebrews that retained pre-Deuteronomist views and did not accept Moses. They would have revered Isaiah and other prophets over Moses. But do we find any evidence of that? It's a fascinating topic, but I don't follow yo...
