Re: Could Nicaea's Outcome Have Been The Reverse?

Jerome, who with his Vulgate helped his boss kick-start the Latin Church of Rome, was the "pupil" of the thug pope Damasus. The church industry in Rome started with the PETER-WAS-HERE business and branched out into the cult of the saints and martyrs and the wonderfully successful holy rel...

Identity of Menander, Disciple of Simon Magus, Predecessor of Basilides

"TL;DR:" as the kiddos say. Bottom Line Up Front: the household of Poppaeus in Pompeii sponsored a post-44AD exile of a Boethusian, who took his family's proto-Simonian sect and was forced to synthesize it with Alexandrian Philonic philosophy. This "House of Menander" became the ...

Just a premise. What if Western Christians favored Gnostic forms of the religion, and the influence from the foggy East is why catholicizers rejected them? Jamesianism is our template for what Eastern Christianity might have been (AKA "Jewish" Christianity and Elchasaitism). In this interp...

The New Joshua : Izates goes to the River Jordan and calls for a second crossing into the Holy Land. The return of Israel from captivity. Roman authorities capture and execute him before his horde can arrive from the Anileus kingdom. Which Izates was this and what are the sources? The sources on Iz...

Indeed.
Ambrose and Jerome are a certain kind of villain in my eyes, not sure which.

I also would substitute your word (pagan) for the Arians, with something that resembles "original Christian", where your Christian has more to do with "Greek Contemporary Philosophy Purist".

Re: Simon Magus = Marcion: Who has suggested this?

However, the evidence would be an inscription I think was mentioned, plus some comparison of personages between different Pauline epistles considering theories on the different phases of composition. Any chance you or someone can provide details, please? What is the inscription? What are the names ...

Re: Could Nicaea's Outcome Have Been The Reverse?

Philostorgius who was a committed Arian appears to accept broadly the same facts about the history of the controversy as do the orthodox, (although his evaluation is obviously different). Andrew Criddle Curious. Philostorgius is active rather late, after Theodosius. His source material may have alr...
