Was Morton Smith a forger?

Today, in his blog, James Tabor wrote: "Morton Smith was Not a Forger! I was very pleased to see that my friend and colleage James David Audlin is doing a live interview with Youtube host Jacob Berman over at #History Valley. It is live today at 5pm EDT. " https://jamestabor.com/morton-smi...

Re: David Oliver Smith on the interpolations in Paul

Re: "the case is closed" Lol. I admit, you are far from alone in this assessment! I liken my research to the title of that TV show: "Cold Case". I'm offering answers to questions nobody is seriously asking. My task is a daunting one, but hey, it is what I do. PS: Thanks for this ...

Re: David Oliver Smith on the interpolations in Paul

Yes, I saw David Oliver Smith talk about his work on chaistic structure as a tool for detecting interpolation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuMR2zHeWpk I agree with him that chiasic structure does appear in Paul's writings. It is a tool that needs to be used in combination with the full rang...

Re: David Oliver Smith on the interpolations in Paul

Did you intend Gal 2:7b-8? no, I intend precisely Galatians 2:2b. In addition to break chiastic structures: If v. 2:2b is removed, the letter still makes sense. In fact, it makes more sense and does not contradict Gal 1:16-17, or 2 Cor 11:5 and 12:11 as does canonical Gal 2:2b. It makes no sense fo...

Re: Stephan Huller's recent interview by Jacob Berman

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGuzmv1qSCI My congratulations to Stephan Huller and a very engaging interview. I listened to every minute of it, and I for one was not bored. I learned a new word: biographize. I particularly appreciated the connections between point of view on history and biography.

Re: WHO is this god: the "Horos" ?

@billd89 Thanks for sharing your careful work on translating Heracleon, Fragments from his Commentary on the Gospel of John, Fragment 20 on John 4:21! Jews still serve Jerusalem? Before 70 AD, YES: I suspect this is an older Sethian doctrine borrowed by a later Valentinian. At any rate, 'Jesus said'...

Re: translations

As far as I know no translation is beyond question. I agree. In my study of Paul's letter to the Galatians, I have found that grammar and syntax vis-a-vis discernment of literary context make for a lot of decision points, all of which are contestable. Not only that, there is the choice of critical ...

Is there a better one? William O Walker Jr. wrote: "Barnikol argued that Gal 2:7b-8 (beginning with της άκροβυστίας) was an antiMarcionite insertion, dating from the late second century... To my knowledge, no one has subjected his proposal to detailed scrutiny or attempted to answer the rather...
