Re: "XC" For Clement was Xrestos not Xristos
Yeah the Christians were commonly called mispronounced as Chrestians if I remember correctly.

Re: Cold Case Christianity
His book is actually a good one. It is indeed a solid defense of the credibility and authorship of the gospels. Try not to dump on someone's credibility as a historian or scholar before you actually read their book. I actually bought the book because I was intrigued on how a homicide detective would...

Re: Carrier on Ehrman and Tim O'Neill
Jacob was one of the most common names in Palestine, and the only reason any Jacob is identified as Jesus' brother is because of a single reference made by Paul in Galatians 1:19 (which may or may not have been intended to reference a literal sibling of a historical Jesus. I'm not persuaded that we...

Re: Carrier on Ehrman and Tim O'Neill
..What I don't get about Carrier is that we have a man named James with an incredibly strong tradition of this James being the bishop of Jerusalem and this man being Jesus's brother. It is unanimous throughout church history and even mentioned by Josephus. I get concerned we are doing revisionist h...

Re: Carrier on Ehrman and Tim O'Neill
If we agree to Carrier's terms then I don't think the evidence can honestly, objectively be weighted one side more than the either. What I don't get about Carrier is that we have a man named James with an incredibly strong tradition of this James being the bishop of Jerusalem and this man being Jesu...

The Tetragrammaton
How accurate is the translation of the tetragrammaton into Yahweh? I'm just interested in how sure scholars really are that the translation is accurate.

Re: An Alternative Translation of Exodus 6:2-3
So in a honest translation from the Hebrew it implies that Yahweh was not known to the patriarchs who only knew him as El Shaddai? I don't want to harmonize things or have a mission to. I just don't like the documentary hypothesis as it stands today and was wondering if this retranslation would help...

An Alternative Translation of Exodus 6:2-3
Could Exodus 6:2-3 be translated as: A I am Yahweh. B And I made myself known to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai. A’ And My name is Yahweh; B’ Did I not make Myself known to them? If so this translation would make more sense in light of Exodus 3:13–15 which implies that Moses will have...

Re: Carrier And Mimesis
I agree that it could be but it's also the same term we would apply to silly movies like the Zeitgeist.MrMacSon wrote:Parelllomania is a term used to besmirch theories like MacDonald's. It's a put-down to negate such theories.

Re: Carrier And Mimesis
The academia you speak of consists of faculty on the whole who have a strong personal interest in Christianity. . That has nothing to do with MacDonald actually substantiating his claims. Which for the record he has not done. He actually blatantly ignores the OT intertextuality, by his wayward conc...
