Re: The calming of the sea.
Do we really want to take Philostratus at his word? I noticed an article by Wannes Gyseunck & Kristoffel Demoen, 'Author and Narrator: Fiction and Metafiction in Philostratus’ Vita Apollonii' (in Theios Sophistes-Essays on Flavius Philostratus' Vita Apollonii, ed by Kristoffel Demoen & Dann...

Re: Carrier's take on 1 Corinthians 15:6
A number of scholars have held that Pentecost in Acts and the five hundred brethren in 1 Corinthians refer to the same event.
See Resuurecting Jesus
I have not previously come across the idea that the word for Pentecost and the word for five hundred have been confused.

Neil Godfrey has a series of posts on his blog that discusses Robbins (http://vridar.org/2006/11/29/the-we-passages-in-acts-a-roman-audience-interpretation-pt-1/) and another discussing the parallels between the account of Josephus' shipwreck and Paul's in Acts (http://vridar.org/2007/04/25/the-shi...

And for my friends who have never managed to expand their minds through chemistry - don't forget that Clement knows of a gospel that identifies Matthew in place of Zacchaeus. https://books.google.com/books?id=ruUZAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA39&lpg=PA39&dq=zacchaeus+matthew+clement&source=bl&o...

Re: Feser - Problems with his view of science and religion
But most contemporary scientists tend not to have the general education that figures of the generation of Einstein, Schrödinger, and Heisenberg did. They don’t know philosophy well, and they also don’t know what they don’t know. This goes double for the more aggressively atheistic ones among them -...

Re: Jesus alive AFTER Pontius Pilate left Judea??
...If you read old texts carefully every now and then some truth slips through the Christian censors. In this case they missed editing a statement by the church father Epiphanius who wrote that Jesus brother James died in AD 62 after having been head of the church for twenty-four years. It looks an...

Re: Acts 5:1-11
Probably the wrong forum for this question, but I'll ask it anyway. I'm assuming Christians are expected to interpret Acts 5:1-11 as accurate and literal history. How does the church explain away the requirement for modern parishioners to sell everything and donate it to the church? One out would b...

Re: Bernard's website: my answer to comments
The principle of the Burden of Proof lies with the person making the assertion - "he who avers, must prove". Moreover, implying I cannot refute it, therefore 'it may be true' or 'it might be true', or 'it is true,' is a fallacy called 'argumentium ad ignoratum'. and the silence on the iss...

Indicates that Justin used Matthew's account of the entry into Jerusalem. Andrew Criddle But your not refuting my comment in any way. Basically your speaking over my statement to prove your original point, I may or may not have a problem with. I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. I thought you were im...
