Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

In addition to this, since 'Bar-Abbas' was a judaizing parody of the marcionite Christ, it is natural that the marcionites would have preferred other readings (for example, your 'Bar-Rabbas') different from the parodistic anti-marcionite 'Bar-Abbas'. So any your 'evidence' of different ethymologies ...

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

Pilate could crucify both, Barabbas and Jesus.

Instead, the precise point of the evangelist is that only one was the crucified.

The reading 'Bar-Abbas ' is able to explain this enigma.

Not 'Bar-Rabbas'.

Re: “Abba, Father” as two distinct deities, not one

Also the fact that Tertullian in his report about the Marcionites HAS THE SAME READING AS JEROME whom you claim is irrelevant to the discussion about whether the man was originally called bar Rabbas or bar Abbas? I dont' claim that it is ''irrilevant to the discussion''. I claim that it is strongly...

Does 1 Cor 2:7 in Marcion mention the demiurge?

Ephesians 3:9 ...and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God , who created all things. τοῦ μυστηρίου τοῦ ἀποκεκρυμμένου ἀπὸ τῶν αἰώνων ἐν τῷ θεῷ τῷ τὰ πάντα κτίσαντι Marcion read: ...and to make plain to everyone the administration of ...

Re: Jörg Rüpke on early Christianity in 'Pantheon: A New History of Roman Religion'

My point is; the O.P. does not belong here on the Christian Text and History forum but rather the General Religious Discussion forum or even the Classical Texts and History forum. But to compare Mithraism to Christianity is as absurd as comparing Santa Claus to Jesus. there is nothing wrong about t...

Pope Paul III: Jesus is avatar of Mithras

PREMISE: Even if I am Mythicist ( per Doherty/Carrier's arguments), I don't argue for a connection between Mithraism and Christian Origins (beyond the common hellenistic feature of the dying-and-rising gods, not shared at any rate by Mithraism). Mendoza was an ambassador of Charles V in Rome. Accor...

Re: Jörg Rüpke on early Christianity in 'Pantheon: A New History of Roman Religion'

To try to connect Mithraism to the origin of Christianity is just absurd, nay dishonest. Please, don't be you dishonest. I don't 'connect', I compare . Please like the difference. About Mithras, now we know that his killing the bull was the act that created the world... ...and now we know th...

Re: Jörg Rüpke on early Christianity in 'Pantheon: A New History of Roman Religion'

...The development of individuality, in religious communication in particular, arose from and itself in turn stimulated practices whereby a personal experience, facilitated by ritual, could lend verisimilitude to fictions: “Here is the place where Mithras killed the bull” . (my bold) Curiously, the...

Re: 1 Peter 1:20

The more probable interpretation of the verse assumes that the choice of the Lamb is functional to his sacrifice on the altar: He was chosen to be killed before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Now, if the author had wanted to say that the Lamb was kille...
