Re: eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot... and cross for cross, Lord Jesus!

It's a weak correlation and an inverted one at that. If Joshua was crucified by seven kings or if seven Archons were crucified by Jesus your point would be stronger.

Re: Helena of Adiabene As The Magdalene - The Tower Motif In Mythology?

The maiden in the tower motif is also present in the pseudo Clementine writings on Simon Magus. See Recognitions, book II, chapter XI: Therefore, after the death of Dositheus Simon took Luna to himself; and with her he still goes about, as you see, deceiving multitudes, and asserting that he himself...

Re: Aretas V

The assumption that there was an Aretas V and that this assumed Aretas V is the Aretas mentioned in 2 Cor. 11.32. is unwarranted. Historical evidence is that Aretas III controlled Damascus from 85 b.c. to 72 b.c. and from 69 b.c. to 63/62 b.c. Your wikipedia article proves nothing, right? There is ...

Re: Aretas V

Greg Doudna's hypothesis indeed seems reasonable and merits further investigation. To limit oneself a priori to the consensus interpretation is quite restrictive.

Re: A question for experts about Josephus, War 3:10.6

Flavii Iosephi opera by B. Niese (Berlin, Weidmann, 1895) gives the Greek text as follows.

Re: A question for experts about Josephus, War 3:10.6

Hi Giuseppe, I couldn't find a Greek text but consulted the Latin Josephus Project for the Latin edition of Edward Cardwell from 1837, which is based on the Galenius edition of 1534. In this edition the passage you quoted runs as follows: Titus vero missis equitibus res gestas patri nunciat. Quibus ...

Very interesting, Giuseppe. May I ask how you stumbled on this tantalising piece of information?

Re: GMark's "James the Less" and Matthean Posteriority

The title "the Less" distinguishes this "James" from another "James" who is mentioned GMark 16, the scene of the empty tomb. Confusingly, this "James" also has a mother named "Mary": "1When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother ...

Re: did you know???

Unfortunately you present some of your opinions as facts. And while complaining about someone being condescending, you answer someone else with a condescending "can't you read". This might not be the best way to make your arguments heard.

Re: ONLY after the 70 CE the concept of Messiah implied INCREASINGLY a belief in a figure who’s recently been ON EARTH

Hi Giuseppe, the diffusion of an earthly Messiah concept among people (Romans, Jews or anybody) is a necessary precondition for anybody to be viewed as an eartly Messiah. That goes for Simon of Peraea, Jesus, Vespasian, Bar Kochba and all other claimants to that position. Since you already concede t...
