Stop the Steal/QANON as an apocalyptic movement

Post by FollowerOfMessiah »

The parallels are obvious. Amongst disgruntled alt-righters and Trump supporters, many now believe that the 2020 US Election was fake, and Trump never lost, but was supposed to return to power in August. While people have made the connection before of QANON and apocalyptism (especially Gnostic apocalyptism with the dualistic emphasis on light and dark, the corruption of the material world, the knowledge open only to a secret few), I've wondered about the Stop the Steal movement viewing Trump as a messiah figure who died (figuratively) and rose again, perhaps even closer to the Shi'a concept of the Hidden Imam in occultation. Currently the alt-right and even many conservatives seem to have been sucked into this mentality and are rudderless, looking for some direction and a new leader (hence the recent fascination with Ron DeSantis and Viktor Orban, as potential replacements for Trump who was "Crucified" by the deep state/China/Dominion Machines).

Absolutely.

There was a time when a prophecy was made of some political action occurring. Nothing happened except for a minor earthquake off the coast of Africa. This was interpreted as a covert submarine battle between factions. They also have secret wars in space, and covert actions that get reported in the headlines as something else (gas leak, resignations). They have fully embraced the secret war in another realm concept, even literally believing that angels and demons are fighting and interacting with the secret military factions. So there are also spheres and layers to the invisible war.

The problem with Qanon is they have a lousy set of potential messiahs. I think the advanced age of many Qanon movement people will lead to Trump being replaced as the messiah figure rather than him being euhemerized later. It's unclear whether the newer generation is as committed to movement anyway.

Qanon believers tend to come from a very eschatologically oriented Christian environment which is still colored by Cold War tropes. I don't know if the system will last.

For a while, there was a belief that JFK Jr. had faked his death and was the secret leader of the movement with Trump as the figurehead. His public reappearance would usher in the new order.

This is much deeper than Qanon and has been going on for a long time.

The unchurched folk Protestantism that lives in the paranormal media world is showing the signs of a popular Dualist heresy and the recently diseased Russ Dizdar was its prophet:

QAnon's 'Great Awakening' failed to materialize. What's next could be worse | QAnon | The Guardian
Shortly before Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States, Dave Hayes – a longtime QAnon influencer who goes by the name Praying Medic – posted a photo of dark storm clouds gathering over the US Capitol on the rightwing social media platform Gab. “What a beautiful black sky,” he wrote to his 92,000 followers, appending a thunderclap emoji.

The message was clear to those well-versed in QAnon lore: “the Storm” – the day of reckoning when Donald Trump and his faithful allies in the military would declare martial law, round up all their many political enemies, and send them to Guantánamo Bay for execution by hanging – was finally here. 20 January 2021 wouldn’t mark the end of Trump’s presidency, but the beginning of “the Great Awakening”.
But that didn't happen. Despite an attempt to make that happen on January 6, 2021, Trump left the White House for Mar-a-Lago, and Joe Biden moved in.

Then noting
As Biden took the oath of office just before noon on Wednesday, a QAnon channel on Telegram lit up with laments.

“We’ve been lied to,” wrote one person.

“I think we have been fooled like no other,” another responded, adding: “Hate to say it. Held on to hope til this very moment.”

“I feel like I’m losing my mind,” said a third. “I don’t know what to believe anymore.”

“Anyone else feeling beyond let down right now?” read a popular post on a QAnon message board. “It’s like being a kid and seeing the big gift under the tree thinking it is exactly what you want only to open it and realize it was a lump of coal the whole time.”
and that QAnon believers are used to QAnon prophecies being falsified.

The trend in modern Christianity to erase Satan from the religion has only had the effect of loosing his bonds and setting him free to run amuck in the world. Vanquished from modern theology he now resides in the great popular myths of the Satanic Conspiracy.

Seems like this:
When Prophecy Fails - Wikipedia
When Prophecy Fails: A Social and Psychological Study of a Modern Group That Predicted the Destruction of the World is a classic work of social psychology by Leon Festinger, Henry Riecken, and Stanley Schachter, published in 1956, detailing a study of a small UFO religion in Chicago called the Seekers that believed in an imminent apocalypse. The authors took a particular interest in the members' coping mechanisms after the event did not occur, focusing on the cognitive dissonance between the members' beliefs and actual events, and the psychological consequences of these disconfirmed expectations.
QAnon 'Cult' Still Waiting for a Miracle in Dallas - Rolling Stone - "The group, led by conspiracy theorist Michael Protzman, are trafficking in fascistic ideas that are far more concerning than they are kooky "
It’s been a month since the fanatical followers of a fringe QAnon influencer, Michael Protzman (aka Negative48), first gathered in Dallas, Texas, to witness the reveal — or resurrection, depending who you asked — of John F. Kennedy and JFK Jr.

Despite the Kennedy clan failing to appear on more than six occasions prophesied by Protzman, dozens of his followers remain in Dallas waiting for a miracle to occur.
Even if JFK Sr. and/or Jr. were to return, would either of them have much taste for supporting Donald Trump or QAnon? I think it unlikely.

Lawyers representing families of Sandy Hook massacre victims who are suing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones said they received child pornography in documents they were sent by the Infowars founder, according to court papers filed Monday in Connecticut.
