English translation of [Cento vergilianus] de laudibus Christi ?

Post by Leucius Charinus »

Does anyone know of an (online, or archived) English translation for the Cento vergilianus de laudibus Christi ? A product of the 4th century and composed with verses and phrases of Virgil copy/pasted to form an epic poem which covered the LXX (Genesis and Exodus) and the NT life of Jesus. The first printed edition of the De laudibus Christi, dating back to 1472, is possibly the first printed work composed by a woman.

There was an English translation published as "The Golden Bough, the Oaken Cross: The Virgilian Cento of Faltonia Betitia Proba" Elizabeth Ann Clark, Diane F. Hatch Scholars Press, Jan 1, 1981 - Bible - 249 pages

Anything online?

“But baptised, like the blest, in the Castalian font—
I, who in my thirst have drunk libations of the Light—
now begin my song: be at my side, Lord, set my thoughts
straight, as I tell how Virgil sang the offices of Christ. “

—De laudibus Christi, ll. 20–23,
translated by Josephine Balmer
