This proves once more the absolute foolishness of Markan Prioritism and the necessity of tracing the evolution of the story of the trial to pre-synoptic sources.

Not only, according to Klinghardt, in Mcn the question is: "are you the Christ?" and not "are you the king of the Jews?" , proving so that Pilate was assumed by the original readers to be in full knowledge of the meaning of 'Christ' as a divine being, but also in the Gospel of Peter we have the soldiers of Herod who deride the "Son of God" while crucifying the 'king of Israel'.

From this POV, hardly Mark can be considered an old gospel, insofar the appellative of 'king of the Jews' is all political.

Therefore I subcribe to this:

Mark is clearly embarrassed by previous gospels where Jesus figured expliciter as a divine being tout court walking on the earth.
