Targum II on Esther 7:10

Post by Giuseppe »

I would like to find this quote:

The son of Hamdatha wants to hang on the tree the son of Pandira

Thanks in advance for any reference/link.

the passage is interesting because "the son of Hamdatha" is the evil Haman.

So the Talmudist was showing solidarity with the victim ("the son of Pandira", i.e. Jesus).

See discussion here and here
It is an anti-Christian joke.

Thank you!

Dubourg has found, inter alia, that the term used in the Talmud above for 'tree' is ʼKSNDRYʼ, having the same meaning of 'Alexandrians', 'Alexandria', and 'Alexander'.

So while Karabbas is derided by the "Alexandrians" in Philo, Jesus is hanged on a "tree" in some Christian texts.

Coincidence?
