Clement's (Unrecognized) Carpocratian Gospel Reading

Post by Secret Alias »

I just noticed this variant which I don't think has been picked up by anyone yet:

μή ποτε παραδῷ σε τῷ κριτῇ, ὁ κριτὴς δὲ τῷ ὑπηρέτῃ τῆς ἀρχῆς τοῦ διαβόλου (Lest he deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officers of Satan's kingdom). Strom. 4.14.95.3

There is a brief discussion of this Clementine passage and its similarity to the Carpocratian position in Carpocrates, Marcellina, and Epiphanes by David Litwa. page 229 of my kindle. (This passage does not seem available via Google Books.)

What a ridiculously high price for that book. Yeesh, no wonder few people ever read it. Somebody else has to be paying for it.
