Where is this quote of Plutarch?

Post by Giuseppe »

where is this quote of Plutarch, in his book 'against the Stoics' ?
if a single wise man at any place only points his finger in a reasonable way, all the wise men on earth will benefit and gain from it

Bruno Bauer quotes it as coming from that book, but I have not found it.

The quote is from here:

If (say they) one wise man does but any way prudently stretch out his finger, all the wise men all the world over receive utility by it.

ἂν εἷς σοφὸς ὁπουδήποτε προτείνῃ τὸν δάκτυλον φρονίμως, οἱ κατὰ τὴν οἰκουμένην σοφοὶ πάντες ὠφελοῦνται.

án eís sofós opoudípote proteíni tón dáktylon fronímos, oi katá tín oikouménin sofoí pántes ofeloúntai.

If a wise man anywhere points the finger wisely, the wise in the world are all benefited.

This statement by Plutarch expresses the notion that wisdom and knowledge are universally beneficial. It suggests that the insights and teachings of a wise individual can have a positive impact on other wise people, regardless of their location or background.
