What happened to Ben?
Seems to be away from the forum, taking a breather perhaps. Hope he comes back!
Amen.

If Ben is listening: If you think the level of conversation has deteriorated to a point where you just don't want to deal with it anymore, you could perhaps adopt some basic mental "filters" to, well, ignore the noise and focus on the stronger signals. Like turning the squelch knob on a CB radio (remember those?).

Just politely advise annoying folks that you do not wish to engage them in dialogue (I've done it a couple times, and a couple times I was waved off myself, oh well). You were, by far, the best poster of high quality and carefully researched material here (my regards to the others, we all know who you are).

'Going Outside'

Post by billd89 »

I hope he's happy, healthy, engaged in satisfying research. Best wishes, speedy return or whatever he wants.

Last post was 5/5/21, 4 mo ago, and nothing suggests a 'flounce'. I've participated in one of the oldest continuous forums +20yrs online, and we have an informal protocol for checking up on ppl, and quitting. We joke about proxies now, as so many posters enter their 70s. You obviously shouldnt pester anyone who wants to take a break, but a minimum of concern is also warranted. A fair number of posters on that forum have died, some abruptly. One curmudgeon disappeared into a cave and died of alcoholism - not sure there was anything we could have done about that, but it felt wrong to me. Consciously, most longstanding posters who decide to 'quit' will then announce (offhandedly, in some reply, w/o fuss, etc.) they are leaving, taking a break 'for awhile', or whatever: that others will not worry.

Caring communities are better than the alternative, in my experience.

2. I am wondering about the interpretation of ἀπεκδυσάμενος.
There is some discussion the ambiguities of the word in the attached file. Let me know if the French language of the article is a problem.

Thanks for this Neil. Always fun to practice my French.

Unfortunately the discussion that starts on p. 305 proceeds on the faulty assumption that Christ is (must be) the subject of the participle. God is the only subject mentioned in the preceding verses, as observed in the Pulpit Commentary cited earlier. The author seems not to be grappling with the text so much as with various Latin patristic misreadings of it.
