In Acts of Pilate, the 'prince of hell' is modelled on Pilate

Discussion about the New Testament, apocrypha, gnostics, church fathers, Christian origins, historical Jesus or otherwise, etc.

In Acts of Pilate, the 'prince of hell' is modelled on Pilate

Post by Giuseppe »

The pattern is identical:

Gospels Acts of Pilate
Jesus is betrayed to Pilate Jesus is betrayed to hell
The Jews accuse Jesus before Pilate Satan accuses Jesus before the "prince of hell"
Pilate doesn't want to condemn Jesus, knowing his innocence The 'prince of hell' doesn't want to resist against Jesus, knowing his power
Pilate condemns Jesus The 'prince of hell' resists to Jesus
Jesus rises Jesus opens the gates of hell
Pilate repents and blames the Jews The 'prince of hell' repents and blames Satan

Hence, assuming the antiquity and relative diffusion of an original Acts of Pilate, is Pilate only the euhemerization of the 'prince of hell' ?
