Is the "abomination of desolation" precisely Pilate?

Is the "abomination of desolation" precisely Pilate?

Post by Giuseppe »

Pilate who had placed the Roman insignia inside the Temple, "where it does not belong".

So this explains Mark 13:14:

When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’ standing where it does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Already Jesus had identified, in his answer before the high priest (14:62), the coming of the Son of Man on the clouds with himself on the cross.

This says us that the Pilate's profanation of the temple had provoked, as reaction, the sedition of Jesus and his followers. That would have been the hour when Jesus would have appeared as "the Son of Man coming on the clouds".

What "Mark" (author) did, was to identify the dramatic reality (the historical crucifixion of Jesus) with the celestial glory that never came.
