Calling on the name of the Lord?

Passages such as Joel 2:32 (And it will come about that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Will be saved) introduce interesting contradictions. This presumably originally read "everyone who calls on the name of YHWH Will be saved", but what did Jews make of such passages when they were taught that they could not say the name YHWH? What did these mean, how did they treat them?
