The customs of purity and impurity today among Israelis are preserved

By: Binyamim Tzedaka

The simplicity of the scripture

In everyday life, the Samaritan Israelis take the words of Scripture literally. This practice strengthens neighborly relations to the best, with the neighbor caring for the woman's children for forty - one days of separation after the birth of a son, and for eighty days of separation after a daughter.

The separation is complete, and so the midwife will do to her neighbor when she gives birth. If there is no neighbor to replace with, the husband fills the role and becomes the mother of the house, because as stated, the separation is complete.

This will greatly strengthen the relationship between a husband and wife when he is aware of his wife's needs and actions the rest of the day.

This bond is greatly strengthened during the seven monthly days of nida, when as in the days after birth, the husband becomes for seven days the mother of the house in full function. He is fully aware of what his wife is doing at home the rest of the month. It lowers a lot of the natural tension between the couple. Most of their days they live in peace nurtured by sharing the burden of housework.

In recent generations, the houses have replaced the tents and all the accessories have been prepared that allow running water for drinking, rinsing and bathing.

The separate tent where the movers would sit for seven days, 41 days and 80 days, was replaced by a separate room in the house with separate toilets. The public mikveh in the yard between the tents or houses before the introduction of the means of bathing and rinsing, replaced the large private bath. The nida or midwife uses the bathing facility based on the principle of running living water.

The nida or midwife fills the bathtub [regular bath or Japanese bath [Jacuzzi] with lukewarm to warm water, then turns on the tap and removes the faucet from the bottom of the bath to ensure the flow of living water. The midwife immerses in the water that flows throughout her body from her feet to her head, without her clothes being dipped separately before her baptism. With the help of her husband or neighbor, they remove the clothes from the water. Thus at the end of the days of niddah, 41 or 80 days. During the rest of the niddah, there is no need for immersion and you can make do with a shower every day.

If the family prefers to face the son when he is pure. Baptize him in the water, and return him to his mother's lap at the end of the ceremony, after his circumcision.

If a woman has doubts about her exile, she should consult the priest, who will rule on her purity or impurity. Usually the doctor's decision is enough.

Summary - These commandments are the commandments of life. The complete separation for 7, 41, 80 days causes over-strengthening of the family. Therefore the observance of these commandments should be encouraged at all times for the sake of the integrity of the whole community.

Total segregation

There is no doubt that separation while caring for all members of the household in childbirth or childbirth, strengthens the family bond and reduces almost the chance of divorce. This is also one of the reasons for the small number of divorce cases among conservative Israelis, less than ten in the last hundred years.

The strengthening of the relationship between the husband and wife as a result of the husband fulfilling the role of the wife on all the different days of separation, becomes more intense when the couple pampers themselves on vacation or a long "honeymoon" at the end of the separation period after each birth.
