Why on earth are you giving me a link to an article about the NS when I have requested information on the earliest Greek copies of Acts 7:45 and Hebrews 4:8?rgprice wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 12:47 pmhttps://apps.lib.umich.edu/reading/Paul ... sacra.htmllclapshaw wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 12:44 pm Looking up the two passages given by the OP, in Sinaiticus, I find that the abbreviations IC and IY are being used. Does anyone know what the earliest copies of Acts 7:45 and Hebrews 4:8 are? I would like to see how the name is rendered in them.
Thanks

Re: Calling Jesus "Yehoshua"
P46 includes Hebrews. I don't know if it has 4:8, but just assumed it does.
Re: Calling Jesus "Yehoshua"
Ok, Hebrews 4:8 in p46 has IHC. Anyone know of any other examples of this passage in the original texts? Acts 7:45?
Re: Calling Jesus "Yehoshua"
Acts 7:45 in Vaticanus has IY.
Re: Calling Jesus "Yehoshua"
BTW I realize that you have made a case that three letter abbreviations like IHC predate two letter abbreviations like IC which you feel became simpler over time, however, the earliest example of this is CBBP VI, predating p46, and it is a two letter abbreviation, ie IC. Also later texts have often a mixture of both two and three letter abbreviations for IC and XC but not KC or Theta C which indicates to me that the two letter abbreviations IC and XC came first and then were later elaborated.rgprice wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 12:47 pmhttps://apps.lib.umich.edu/reading/Paul ... sacra.htmllclapshaw wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 12:44 pm Looking up the two passages given by the OP, in Sinaiticus, I find that the abbreviations IC and IY are being used. Re: Calling Jesus "Yehoshua"
Yeah, that could certainly be.
Re: Calling Jesus "Yehoshua"
If this is the case, two letter abbreviation being first, regarding your other thread on whether Paul originally mentioned a figure named IHCOYC (Yeshua) we need not limit ourselves to that name as with only Iota as a guide any number of other names are possible.
Just food for thought.

@rgprice this is a link to another thread discussing the NS and other methods of abbreviation viewtopic.php?p=143903#p143903
I thought you might find it interesting. I'm hoping SA will oblige us with more material.
