Pet Peeves With Biblical Scholars: The "What Jesus Looked Like" Nonsense
So much talk lately about "figuring out what Jesus looked like" with Joan Taylor and others. Why don't these "experts" ever admit that the Justin and Marcion, our earliest sources on Jesus and Christianity, agree THAT WHATEVER JESUS APPEARED LIKE it was a disguise. So who fucking cares? If the police were looking for someone who robbed a bank and he wore a Donald Trump mask to commit the crime of what value would a description of Donald Trump's (exaggerated) features be to apprehend the criminal? Sometimes I think humanities scholarship is an elaborate make-work scam. Can anyone be this smart and this stupid at the same time?

If you don't know it, I think you'd enjoy dear old Rendel Harris' article, 'On the Stature of Our Lord'*, where he assembles a variety of C2/C3 texts about a shape-shifting Jesus whose 'natural' form was that of a very small man. Just for your benefit, he then quotes Ephrem, who specifies a height of three cubits. Discussion follows about which cubit Ephrem was using, and how this translates (4'4" or 5'2")...

What Jesus looked like to John in the NHL
Behold!
A little child appeared before me in the light. I continued looking at him as he became an old man And then he changed again, becoming like a young man. I didn't understand what I was seeing, But the one likeness had several forms in the light, And these likenesses appeared each through the other And the vision had three forms.
He said to me,
“John, why doubt? Why be afraid? Don’t you know this image? Be not afraid. I am with you (plural) always. I am the Father The Mother The Son I am the incorruptible Purity."

Well you know the old saying, "a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single image".Secret Alias wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 11:02 am Can anyone be this smart and this stupid at the same time?
