Does the exegesis need to be as convoluted as Detering's, ie. in that article?

Wouldn't chapter three in the book of 'Joshua' suffice?1
Detering quotes the main, most relevant parts at the top of p.16, but in the context of "the motif of hesitation at the Jordan" [bottom of p.15]:

... the motif of hesitation at the Jordan is...from the Old Testament book of 'Joshua':

“When the people set out from their tents to pass through the Jordan, and as the priests carried the Ark of the Covenant before the people and came to the Jordan and their feet dipped in at the water’s edge - the Jordan, however, was for the entire harvest time overflowing all its banks - the waters that were coming down from above stood there, rising up like a single wall very far away, near the city of Adam, which lies beside of Zar’ethan; but the water that ran down to the sea, the Salt Sea, had completely stopped flowing. So the people went through across from Jericho [The priests who carried the ark of the Lord’s promise stood firmly on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan until the whole nation of Israel had crossed the Jordan River on dry ground]” (the Book of Joshua 3:14-17).

  • this is a repeat of the parting of the Red Sea trope
1 And the further explanation in chapter 4:

1. The whole nation finished crossing the Jordan River. The Lord had told Joshua, 2 “Choose one man from each of the 12 tribes. 3 Order them to pick up 12 stones from the middle of the Jordan ... Take the stones along with you, and set them down where you will camp tonight.”
....< .. vv. 4-13 omitted here .. >
14 On that day the Lord honored Joshua in the presence of all the Israelites. As long as Joshua lived, the Israelites respected him in the same way they had respected Moses.

15 The Lord said to Joshua, 16 “Order the priests who carry the ark of the testimony to come out of the Jordan River.”

17 So Joshua ordered the priests, “Come out of the Jordan.”

18 The priests who carried the ark of the Lord’s promise came out of the middle of the Jordan. When their feet stepped onto dry land, the water of the Jordan returned to its seasonal flood level.
....< .. vv. 19-21 omitted .. >
22 the children should be told that Israel crossed the Jordan River on dry ground. 23 The Lord your God dried up the Jordan ahead of you until you had crossed, as he did to the Red Sea until we had crossed. 24 The Lord did this so that everyone in the world would know his mighty power and that you would fear the Lord your God every day of your life.”

When I will be able to read Jan Kozák (he writes in Czech), then I can say (1) if that is what he means precisely and (2) if I agree or not.
