If we dismiss texts simply because they might be forgeries, we’d be left with very little to work with. Instead, all of these texts should be studied with an asterisk—acknowledging their potential for forgery, but not discarding them outright. Our judgments are often made on a collection of likely forgeries, and very few, if any, completely "authentic" texts. Yet, these works still provide valuable insights into early Christianity and its development.
